On S slopes of hill in flat farmland. Marked on OS 6-inch maps as an oval enclosure (c. 40m by c. 35m). During the course of aerial reconnaissance in June 1963 (CUCAP AHM 38), all that was visible was a cropmark. No visible surface trace survives. Surrounding the remains of Cloonigny Castle (GA074-027002-). A Nat. Mon., this well-preserved moated site (N-S 65m, E-W 63m) is defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank is best preserved from W to N. Quarrying has disturbed the enclosing elements from S to W and from N to NNE. Abutting the monument at SW is a mound defined by a scarp and external fosse, and a ditch runs NNE-SSW immediately outside W side. A modern drain encircles the monument from W through N to E. About halfway along its length, a second hollow (L 2.8m, Wth 2.7m) opens off its S side. On a hillock in gently undulating grassland. Poorly preserved subcircular ringfort (N-S 36m, E-W 30m) defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. From NE to E the internal face of the inner bank is faced with stone. A gap (Wth 3.7m) at S may be original. A low bank of earth and stone (L 8m) radiates from the monument at S; possibly associated. The fosse survives from NW through N to SE, and the outer bank is present from N to NE and at SE. A gap (Wth 2.5m) at NNW could be original. Gaps occur at SE and SW. The interior rises towards the centre; an oval hollow at N is possibly the result of quarrying.
