On an E-facing slope in grassland. Marked on the OS 6-inch maps as a subcircular enclosure (c. 35m E-W; c. 33m N-S), this possible rath is now defined by scarp (max. H 1.5m) and is rectangular in plan (27m x 22m) as a result of the squaring off of the NW and NE sectors by a tractor trackway. A field wall clipping ahe SW quadrant may overlie the line of the original bank. Another tractor trackway runs through the interior of the monument to the E of this field boundary. A possible house site (GA114-057006-) lies to the NW. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 26 February 2019 - GA114-057003: Ritual site - holy well, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CGA114-057003-. Some 50m to the S of a possible rath (GA114-057001-). Known locally as the birthplace of St Colman, this spring well is enclosed by a well-preserved ornate octagonal concrete well house which was built in 1912. The entrance is at N. A cross which was erected in 1901 lies immediately to its W. It marks the spot where St Colman was born and where subsequently his mother St Rioneach was buried. A pattern is held here on October 20th each year. A ruined building (GA114-057005-) lies c. 90m to the WNW. (Fahey 1893, 50-51, 112; Long 1978, 12-13) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 30 January 2020 - GA114-057004: Cross, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CGA114-057004-. This cross is associated with a holy well (GA114-057003-) dedicated to St Coleman. It stands to its W of the well and it is believed to mark the spot where the saint was born (Long 1978, 12-13). On inspection in November 1982 the cross had been smashed but an inscription on its base indicated that it was erected in 1901. On re-inspection in July 1993 a Celtic cross had been erected on the original base stone. On an E-facing slope in pastureland, c. 90m to the WNW of a holy well (GA114-057003-). Described by Fahey (1893, 51) as 'a ruined oratory of considerable antiquity'. However, all that survived then, and now, is one flat-topped coursed wall (H 3m; Wth 0.9m) constructed of well-cut and mortared blocks, which is aligned E-W. A couple of projecting stones at either end indicate the returns suggesting that it is the N wall of a building (L 11.5m int.). Traces of a plinth are visible at the base of the N (external) face of the wall. The only architectural feature is a possible putlog hole in its S (internal) face. Possibly the remains of a church or ecclesiastical building. According to local information it was a 'monastery'. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner.
