On the summit of a low hill in level grassland. Poorly preserved subcircular rath (N-S 43m, E-W 38.5m) defined by a bank and external fosse from NE through S to WNW. A scarp forms the enclosing element from WNW to NE. There is a CBG (GA016-052001-) within the interior. Within a ringfort (GA016-052----). According to local information, this is the site of a CBG. A number of low set stones on the inner edge of the bank, flanking the entrance at SE, indicate grave-markers. In a wide shallow valley beside a river. In existence in 1574 when it was in the possession of 'James Brimingham [sic]' (Nolan 1901b, 117). A poorly preserved almost square tower (L 11.2m, Wth 10.6m) now three storeys high; the NW corner has completely collapsed and there are several breaches in the walls. The springing of an arch at the top of E wall indicates the former presence of a stone vault. Few architectural features survive, however, a breach in E wall exposes the garderobe exit chute on 1st floor, and a wall-cupboard is visible within a broken embrasure in N wall. Some 4m W of SW corner, a bawn wall extends W for 5m and then turns N for c. 23m; no visible surface trace of N, E or S walls survive. There are earthworks (GA016-053002-) to W and NW. ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage)

- Brooklawn National School, school, 1880–1890, Regional interest, registry number 30401610, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=GA&regno=30401610. Detached eight-bay single-storey school, dated 1885, having entrance doorways to each end bay. Now derelict. Pitched slate roof, with brick chimneystack and with round vents to upper gables, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered rubble limestone walls, with inscribed limestone plaques above doorways, that to west reading 'Brooklawn Male National School 1885'. Square-headed window openings, with limestone sills and remains of timber sliding sash windows having three-over-three horizontal panes.
