In undulating grassland. Marked on the OS 6-inch maps as a roughly D-shaped enclosure (c. 37m NW-SE) with a straight N side (L 32m); on the 1933 edition it is cut at NNW and SSW by a N-S running field boundary. On inspection in April 1984 no visible surface trace survived. However, its outline is clearly visible on the OSi digitalglobe aerial photograph. The siting and cartographic evidence suggest that this was a rath. In pastureland, in the SE corner of a large field. This graveyard, roughly trapezoidal shaped in plan (40m E-W; 39m N-S), is enclosed by a modern concrete wall. Access is via a gateway at E. A pathway lined with evergreen trees leads to an almost centrally located church (GA098-104001-). Inscribed headstones date from the 18th to the 20th centuries. Numerous uninscribed grave-markers are also scattered about it and in some cases architectural fragments from the church have been reused to mark graves. The following description is from https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/buildings-search/building/30409808/finnure-church-finnure-co-galway last accessed 18 February 2020. Freestanding single-cell Roman Catholic church, built c.1600. Now disused. Pitched slate roof with cut limestone eaves course and with sculped cross finial to entrance gable. Rubble limestone walls, with inscribed plaque to west gable. Pointed arch window opening to east gable, having chamfered limestone surround and replacement fixed window. Pointed arch door opening with cut limestone surround and with corbels supporting the two arch stones, with timber battened door and limestone threshold. Corbelled ceiling and limestone-flagged floor to interior. Recent altar to east end. Inscribed memorial plaques and timber sculpture to interior. Set within graveyard. Double-leaf pedestrian gates to graveyard entrance, with rendered boundary walls. Double-leaf steel and cast-iron gates to site entrance to roadside, having rendered square-profile piers and quadrant walls. The simple construction of this once-ruinous church is enhanced by an appropriate recent renovation. Enhanced and contextualised by its graveyard setting, the memorial plaque to the interior indicates that this has long been a burial place for the O'Madden family of Hy-Many or Uí Maine. The carefully tooled but partly uncut doorway is indicative of its early date.
