On W-facing slope of a low hill. Circular rath (D 36m), in fair condition, defined by a bank and external fosse. A scarp forms the enclosing element from SSW to NW. The fosse is visible from NW to NE and survives as a shallow depression. Several low earthen mounds to NE and E may be the remains of old field boundaries. On a rise in undulating farmland, it stands within a modern irregularly shaped graveyard. Described in OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 623-4) as an 'old Church ... nearly destroyed'. All that remains of the original fabric of this very poorly preserved rectangular church (E-W; L 16.8m, Wth 5.1m) is part of E gable and adjoining sections of N and S walls. The rest of the masonry is of modern date. The only surviving architectural feature is a plain flat-headed window in E gable which incorporates some dressed stone. ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage)

- Fohanagh House, house, 1830–1895, Regional interest, registry number 30407304, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=GA&regno=30407304. Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1840, having later nineteenth-century pile to rear, and single-storey extensions of c.2005 to rear. Central projecting two-storey gable-fronted entrance porch built 1893 to front. Hipped natural slate roof with pair of rendered chimneystacks to middle of ridge of front block and of later block. Overhanging eaves with decorative rafter ends, rooflight to west elevation, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Ruled and lined cement render, plinth course and parallel quoins to front elevation, roughcast render to other elevations. Porch has raised quoins to first floor, moulded cornice, simple cantoned pilasters on plinth course to ground floor with ground floor openings flanked by further pair of pilasters. Square-headed openings throughout, having mainly replacement timber windows, with some timber sliding sash two-over-two pane windows to north elevation, all with tooled limestone sills. Moulded architraves with keystones to window openings of front elevation. Timber four-panel entrance door to north side of porch with stone steps. Set in mature landscaped garden with enclosed farmyard to west.
