Situated on the lower N slopes of Knocknanacree, overlooking the narrow valley that extends W from Anascaul, this site consists of a circular area enclosed by a low bank, up to .8m high externally but only very slightly raised above the interior. An ill-defined central area is slightly raised above the remainder of the interior, possibly marking the location of a house platform, but there is also a possibility that this site should be interpreted as a ring-barrow and not a ringfort. Internal diam. 19m. A roughly circular univallate rath situated on the N side of the Knocknanacree ridge, overlooking the narrow valley that extends W from Anascaul. The bank and fosse have been replaced along the NE sector by a straight NW-SE field-wall. For the remainder of the circumference the bank rises 1.8m above the fosse which is 4m wide but only faintly discernible. The bank height above the interior is generally slight, but it is emphasised by the presence of a series of large, roughly circular depressions in the interior. These latter are enclosed by low stony banks and may be the remains of hut-sites. They measure up to 6m in diameter and 1.25m in depth. The above description is derived from J. Internal diam. 26m N-S, 28m E-W. A circular univallate rath located on the lower N slopes of Knocknanacree overlooking the confluence of 2 streams which flow S to Minard Bay. Around most of the W half of the enclosure, the earthen enclosing bank is no more than .5m high internally and 1.5m high externally. Its more substantial size in the NNW sector is probably due to its use there as a field boundary fence, and its use as a lane boundary in the NE quadrant probably explains its better condition in that sector. Dense vegetation prevents a close examination both of the entrance gap at NE and of the large quantity of stone collapse scattered around the interior. The above description is derived from J. It is bisected NW-SE by a field wall and no other features are visible in the interior. The earthen enclosing bank is a maximum of 1.1m high. Internal diam. 25m N-S, 31m E-W. This oval univallate rath lies on the lower N slopes of Knocknanacree, about 300m S of another rath (KE054-056----) and 300m N of Cahernanacree (KE054-064----). The earthen enclosing bank reaches a maximum height of 1.25m on the downhill side where the interior is raised above the external ground level. It has been removed completely in the SSE sector, directly S of the probable entrance gap at SE. An oval drystone-built structure abuts the inner face of the bank in the vicinity of the entrance. It measures 5.6m x 4.1m internally, and the walling is up to .7m high and 2m wide. Other features in the interior include some heaps and scatters of stone and a modern field fence and drain. Internal diam. 25m N-S, 31m E-W. This oval univallate rath lies on the lower N slopes of Knocknanacree, about 300m S of another rath (KE054-056----) and 300m N of Cahernanacree (KE054-064----). An oval drystone-built structure KE054-060001- abuts the inner face of the bank in the vicinity of the entrance. It measures 5.6m x 4.1m internally, and the walling is up to .7m high and 2m wide. Internal diam. c. 28m Cahernanackree/Cathair na nAcraí: Situated close to the cliff-edge on the E side of Minard beach, directly opposite Minard Castle (KE054-063----), the very ruined remains of this circular bivallate cashel contain the foundation of a rectangular house and a souterrain, but the various other structures previously noted are no longer discernible. The outer bank appears to be composed of earth and is 2.3m wide and up to .75m high. The fosse is c. 3 to 9m wide. The inner wall is now reduced to a band of stone collapse up to 1.5m high. A 3rd bank, .75m high, 1.6m wide and 31m long, occupies the broad space or fosse between the wall and outer bank along the W sector. A 2.1m wide gap occurs in the outer bank at NW, but there is no corresponding gap through the debris of the inner wall. Two parallel stone walls which cross the fosse at NNW appear to be the foundations of a rectangular structure measuring 3.4m x 3.5m internally. The centre of the enclosure is occupied by a rectangular foundation measuring 9.8m NE-SW x 4.5m NW-SE; the drystone-built walls stand c. 0.75m high. Amongst the stone collapse to W of this is an accidental entrance to a souterrain chamber which measures 2.2m NW-SE x 1.5m NE-SW x .7m in height. The walls are of drystone construction and 5 slabs form the roof of the structure. Neither the original entrance nor the other chambers and passages which were visible in 1940 (UCC) are now accessible. A possible stone mining hammer was discovered in one of the chambers. Also visible at that time was a circular hut, about 1.8m in diameter, abutted by a triangular hut and 2 rectangular huts. Cahernanackree/Cathair na nAcraí: Situated close to the cliff-edge on the E side of Minard beach, directly opposite Minard Castle (KE054-063----), the very ruined remains of circular bivallate cashel KE054-064---- contain the foundation of a rectangular house (KE054-064001-) and a souterrain (KE054-064002-), but the various other structures previously noted are no longer discernible. Amongst the stone collapse to W of KE054-064001- is an accidental entrance to a souterrain chamber which measures 2.2m NW-SE x 1.5m NE-SW x .7m in height. The walls are of drystone construction and 5 slabs form the roof of the structure.
