In pasture, on a gentle NW-facing slope. A raised oval area (28m N-S; 22m E-W) defined by an overgrown bank (Wth 5.85m; int. H. 0.25m; ext. H 1.05m) ENE-NE and by a scarp NE-ENE. The earthen bank is clear from overgrowth NNW-NE. There is an entrance (Wth 2.5m) at ENE. The interior slopes down gently to the NW. There is dense overgrowth in the S and SE sectors of the interior. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. In pasture, on a gentle SW-facing slope. This possible rath is not visible at ground level. It is indicated on the 1894 OS 6-inch map as a circular area (diam. c. 20m). According to the landowner, a 'ring of earth' covered with overgrowth was levelled here in the 1980s. In pasture, on a N-facing slope with views to the Slieve Mish Mountains. This rath is not visible at ground level. According to local information, it was levelled many years ago. It is indicated as a bivallate circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) on the 1894 OS 6-inch map. This is probably the rath known as 'Horgan's fort' which was inspected in the 1940s and which had a 'great souterrain [KE047-067001-] in the enclosing rings' (Minutes of the Co. Kerry Field Club 1948, vol. 2, 797). Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. In a rath (KE047-067----). There are no visible remains of this souterrain. In the 1940s it was described as 'the great souterrain in the enclosing rings' of Hogan's rath in the Farranmanagh district (Minutes of the Co. Kerry Field Club 1948, vol. 2, 797). Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. In pasture, on level ground, to the rear of modern farmyard buildings. A stone is indicated and named 'Gallaun' on the OS 6-inch maps. It is listed as an ogham stone by Walsh (1972, 16). There are no visible remains of this stone. According to local information, it was buried in the 1960s near where it once stood. There is a possible ogham stone (KE047-078001-) c. 750m to the N. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 30 May 2011 - KE047-078: Children's burial ground, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CKE047-078----. In pasture, on a SE-facing slope, towards the top of a rise. A trapezoidal area (28m E-W; 18m N-S), which tapers toward the W, is defined by a linear earthen bank (Wth 2.56m; int. H 0.36m; ext. H 0.63m) on the E side, by a linear scarp (H 1.55m) on the S and W sides and by a linear field boundary (L 34m) on the N side. The interior slopes slightly down to the E and the surface becomes uneven towards the W. The burial ground is covered with overgrowth. It is indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map as a rectangular area (c. 70m E-W; c. 28m N-S) and on the 1894 OS 6-inch map as a rectangular area (c. 40m E-W; c. 25m N-S). According to local information, unbaptised babies were buried here. This is probably the 'killeen' referred to by Crawford (1912, 235) as being '2 miles S.E. of Castlemain station' and in which was a 'defaced ogham pillar' (KE047-078001-). Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011 - KE047-078001: Ogham stone, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CKE047-078001-. According to Crawford (1912, 235), a defaced ogham pillar '4 ft. high...carved with a rude cross, in a circle' was situated 'in a killeen' [probably KE047-078----] 2 miles SE of Castlemaine station. Macalister (1902, 50) recorded that Windele discovered an inscription on the stone which read 'COVTET'. The 'greater part of the original surface' was destroyed by fire, leaving only the upper portion which 'displays a few broad and very shallow grooves, apparently artificial' (ibid.). There are no visible remains of this ogham stone. Another possible ogham stone (KE047-068----) is c. 750m to the S.
