Internal diam. c. 38m. A univallate rath situated on the summit of a low ridge with good clear views in all directions. The site is shown as a roughly circular enclosure on the OS maps, but the N section of the bank has been levelled and the interior reclaimed. The remainder of the bank survives only because of its incorporation into the field fence system. It has undergone some modification and rebuilding, and drystone facing has been added in places. Where best preserved it is 2m high externally, 1.75m high internally and 1.5m wide. An external fosse, 2.6m wide and .4m deep, is present along the SW sector. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 309. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Internal diam. 20m This univallate rath was located on a SE facing slope overlooking the stream valley which extends S to Aghnalack. It was destroyed in 1984. The roughly circular interior was enclosed by a single earthen bank and fosse. Where best preserved, the fosse was 1.5m deep and 4m wide, but it disappeared completely along the SE sector. The bank was a maximum of 1.5m high internally and 1.75m high externally and was c. 1.25m wide. Some stone facing was evident on the outer face of the bank in the NW sector. The bank suffered some damage when the E-W field boundary, which abutted its S side, was removed. The gaps at SE and NE appeared to be secondary features but there was no other evidence for an entrance. However, the entrance may have been blocked, perhaps by one of the 4 field walls which radiated out from the site. The only visible feature in the interior was a N-S ridge, flanked on either side by a depression, which extended from the centre to the bank at N. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 612. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Internal diam. c. 28m. This univallate rath is located on a S facing slope about 125m S of KE044-096----. It is marked on the OS maps as a roughly oval enclosure, long axis aligned NE-SW, but the earthen enclosing bank and fosse are preserved only along the N half of the enclosure where they form part of a field boundary. The bank is 2m high. The fosse is 1.7m deep and 2.5m wide. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 308. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 6 August 2013 - KE044-098: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CKE044-098----. The site of this fort is now marked by a scatter of small stones and a relatively sparse growth of grass. It was shown on the OS maps as a circular univallate enclosure, and a curve in the field fence to SE of the site probably indicates the line of the enclosing bank. The enclosure would have been about 30m in overall diameter. It was situated on a SE facing slope overlooking Ballynasare. The land has recently undergone some improvement, including the removal of field fences and this fort. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 613. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
