In pasture, on the break of a W-facing slope. A circular area (31m N-S; 28m E-W) defined by a low earthen bank (ext. H 1.5m) which has a gentle inward slope. The bank, which is planted with coniferous trees, is slightly damaged in places by cattle. There is a possible entrance (Wth 2.5m) at S. A depression, covered by overgrowth, along the SE arc may be the remains of a shallow fosse. The interior is concave. There is a possible souterrain (KE058-099001-) and a possible hut site (KE058-099002-) in the NW quadrant. This is probably the rath mentioned in the 1840s as being a 'little N.W. of Ballynamaanagh House' (OSNB, Kilcummin, no. 2, 5). In a rath (KE058-099----). A partially exposed rock in the NW quadrant of the rath covers a small opening which reveals a stone-built cavity (min. L 2m) extending to the NNE. There is a possible hut site (KE058-099002-) immediately to the NE of the souterrain. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Within the NW quadrant of a rath (KE058-099----). The remains of a slightly raised, circular area (diam. 7.5m E-W) defined by a stony bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.35m). There is a central depression with a stony base within the interior of this possible hut. A possible souterrain (KE058-099001-) is immediately to the SW. In pasture, on a NW-facing slope, towards the top of a low hill. A roughly circular area (28m N-S; 26.5m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 4.6m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.65m) N-SE and by a scarp (H 2.2m) SE-N. Slight traces of an outer fosse (Wth c. 3.3m) are evident E-SE. There is a slightly raised, stony area along the top edge of the scarp at W. Boulders and stones are piled up against the scarp along the E arc. The interior appears to be raised at W to compensate for the hillslope. It slopes gently down towards an entrance (Wth 2m) at E. An earth and stone ridge (L 7m; Wth c. 1.3m; H 0.5m), on a NW-SE axis, is situated in the NE quadrant. There is possible stone-facing on the bank at the N side of the entrance. There is a cattle gap at SE. This is the rath, called 'Ballynamaanagh Fort' and which had a trigonometrical station in it, which was recorded in the 1840s (OSNB, Kilcummin, no. 2, 5). A roughly oval depression (14m N-S; 8m E-W; D c. 0.2m), kinking inwards along the E and W arcs, is c. 14m to the SE of the rath. In pasture, on a low hill. A roughly circular raised area (27m N-S) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 3.8m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1.5m) which is slightly denuded along the S and W arcs. The bank is stone-faced externally, especially along the S, SW and N arcs and there cattle gaps at S and NNW. Field boundaries (on NW-SE and NE-SW axes) have been incorporated into this bank along the NE and SE arcs. The interior is almost entirely occupied by a central circular mound (diam. 1.6m; H 0.1m) which is surrounded by three concentric earthen banks (Wth 1.4-2.3m; int. H 0.1-0.3m; ext. H 0.1-0.5m) and an arc of a fourth bank (Wth 1.4m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.1m), which is evident NW-NE. This is probably the 'Danish Fort' described in the 1840s as being in the SE end of Ballynamaunagh (OSNB, Kilcummin, no. 2, 5). Located c. 1.2km SW of Kilcummin village to the W of a minor road. An abandoned two-storey, double gable-ended house. The front elevation is E-facing and of five bays with a central one-bay. The central door has a semicircular fanlight and sidelights and a Venetian window overhead. Other window opes are rectangular with sash frames. There is a chimney on each of the four gables. There is a roofless two-storey projection at right angles to the rear. The house is of 18th-century appearance; according to local information, its rear section is the oldest. There is an adjacent walled garden to the W, a farmyard with stone outhouses to the NW and a ruined one-storey gate lodge c. 300m to the S. In improved pasture, on former grounds of Mount Prospect House (KE058-155----), on a S-facing slope. Reported to the Archaeological Survey of Ireland as the low remains of an arc of bank. Levelled remains of gently curving bank (long axis c. E-W; L c. 60m). This bank (overall Wth 6.6m; Wth at top 2m; int. H 0.15m; ext. H 0.7m) curves gently (long-axis NW-SE) to NW at its western end. This is location of former entrance avenue (long axis N-S) to Mount Prospect House, which is depicted upon all OS historic mapping. A level terrace is located upslope to N. The curvilinear earthwork and terrace may be the remains of landscape features associated with Mount Prospect House. In improved pasture, on a gentle S-facing slope. Reported to the Archaeological Survey of Ireland as the low remains of a small enclosure. There is no visible surface trace of an enclosure at this location. Horseshoe shaped mound (dims. 11m N-S; 9m E-W) of heat shattered stone (H 0.35m); Opening (Wth 2.0m) to W. Well depicted to N upon later historic OS six inch map. Mound is not depicted or named upon OS historic mapping. In pasture, at the top of an E-facing slope overlooking a tributary of the Deenagh River. A circular area (diam. 30m) defined by a bank (Wth 6.2m; H 0.6m) which is stone-faced internally along the ESE arc. The external face of the bank E-SE has been cut into, forming an almost vertical face. The interior is concave and slightly flat in the centre. Loose stones are scattered in the SE quadrant. There is a shallow circular depression against the internal face of the bank at SE. A break in the bank at E (Wth c. 4m) has been infilled with a stone deposit which extends into the interior. There is a possible entrance (Wth c. 2.5m) at NW. A rectangular recess, which is stone-lined and cut into the external face of the bank at SW, is possibly the remains of a limekiln. This rath was recorded in the 1840s as 'Lissavoggy' because of 'being surrounded by a soft boggy place' (OSNB, Kilcummin, no. 3, 30).
