Cloghaunleaghaniska Fort/Clochán Liath: This site is shown on the first edition of the OS map as a circular enclosure. On the second edition map it is marked 'site of’. There is now no trace of the site, which was located N of the confluence of the Owroe and Inny rivers just SW of Colly mountain. It was described in the OSNB as a 'circular earthen fort' (Drummod, 19). The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 652. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Internal diam. 37m N-S, 28m E-W This overgrown bivallate rath is located on the lower SW slopes of Colly, at the head of the Inny river valley. The site consists of two earthen banks and a deep intervening fosse. The inner face of the inner bank slopes very gradually towards the interior of the site, giving an exaggerated basal width of 6.5m to the bank. The external face of this bank is revetted with random courses of block-like slabs, which may be a secondary feature. The bank falls 1.9m to the base of the 3.9m wide flat-bottomed fosse, which is choked in dense thicket. Both the fosse and the outer bank can only be traced intermittently along the E half of the site. The outer bank is almost completely obscured by overgrowth. It rises 1m above the fosse, is c. 2m wide and falls .5m on average to external ground level. Most of the rath's interior is covered in a tangled mass of trees and overgrowth and it is not clear if features are concealed underneath this. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 483. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. This pre-bog wall is located on the S side of a small tributary of the Inny river. It comprises a roughly straight N-S line of boulders which stretches for 10m, before disappearing beneath the bog at both ends. It reappears for a short distance just S of the modern road. Intermittent stretches of an intersecting wall are visible at N. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 21. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Internal diam. 21.2m N-S, 19.8m E-W The severely denuded and overgrown remains of this caher are located on the N bank of the Inny river. The wall which enclosed the circular interior is now reduced to a band of debris in which a few stretches of inner and outer facing are visible. These are formed of large, horizontally-laid slabs. The wall width indicated by the present remains is 2m. No entrance can be identified. There is a scattering of stone in the site's overgrown interior, but no definite structures are discernible. A number of walls, which may be coeval with the caher, extend from its external face at S and run towards the banks of the river. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 569. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner.
