In pasture, on a NW-facing slope. A circular area (36.5m E-W; 35m N-S) defined by a partially collapsed drystone wall (T 3.6-4.6m; int. H 0.65m; ext. H 1.35m) of large stones. There is a possible entrance at NE. The N portion of the interior is raised (H 0.8m) and the S portion is cut (D 1.1m) into the upslope to compensate for the hillslope. There is a possible hut site (KE075-005001-) and a souterrain (KE075-005002-) in the SW quadrant. Large rocks align the wall externally along the SW arc and slippage from the wall is visible along the base of the wall, internally and externally. Field boundaries radiate out from the cashel wall at NNW, NE and SW. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. H 0.4m) of earth and stone on the S and E sides and by the cashel wall on the W side. This possible hut site is open to the N. There is a souterrain (KE075-005002-) within the NE sector, abutting the internal wall of the hut. Trees and bushes grow on top of the bank. In the SW quadrant of a cashel (KE075-005----) and abutting the internal face of a possible hut site (KE075-005001-) at NE. An oval depression (2.45m N-S; 2.2m E-W; D 0.6m) defined by gently sloping sides and filled with small stones. In the 1930s Capt. D. B. O'Connell recorded that this souterrain had two chambers, one of which his guide had been in and which, he told O'Connell, had led to the S (SMR file). O'Connell also recorded a 'circular mound about 9ft [2.74m] in diameter' to the W of the souterrain entrance on top of which was a 'large flag-stone' about '6 inches [15cm] below the present surface' (SMR file). In level pasture to the NE of a road. This possible rath is not visible at ground level. It is indicated on the 1894-5 OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m). According to local information, field clearance and land consolidation were carried out here in the mid-1990s. There is a large pile of stones, possibly from old field boundaries, to the NE of the area. A souterrain (KE075-007001-) is associated with this possible rath. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. In a possible rath (KE075-007----). There are no visible remains of this souterrain. In the 1930s, Capt. D. B. O'Connell recorded that a passage was found on Mr Lyne's land and subsequent investigation revealed that a large flagstone had been uncovered and moved (SMR file). Moving the flagstone revealed a large oblong E-W chamber measuring 'about 12 foot [3.66m] long, 5 foot [1.5m] wide, 4-5 foot [1.22-1.52m] high' and filled with debris and a 'low doorway' (2.6ft [0.76m] x 2.6ft [0.76m]) at the E end of the N wall of the chamber, leading to a ramped N-S passage (L 10ft [3m]) which 'appears to lead to the original entrance' (SMR file). In pasture, on a small rise, on a NE-facing slope. In the 1940s 'two gallauns about 5 ft [1.52m] high and facing each other' were recorded on Mr J.D. Lyne's land (ITA). There are no visible remains of these stones. According to local information, field clearance works were carried out here in the mid-1990s and stones were deposited in the field to the NE. Immediately to the N some stones are visible, protruding slightly above the ground surface. In level pasture, c. 40m to the SW of a ford on the Owgarriff River. A circular area (37m E-W; 36m N-S) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 8.5m; int. H 1.1m; ext. H 1.6m) NW-SW, which is stone-faced internally and externally. The bank is eroded SW-NW by a small stream which skirts the W half of the rath. There are some weathered rocks on the bank along the E arc. There is an entrance (Wth 4.5m) at S. The interior is raised slightly. The W half of the interior slopes down towards the W bank and the E half is level. There is a depression (16m NE-SW; 5m NW-SE; D 0.5m) in the NW quadrant, just inside the bank. In a garden, on a NE-facing slope, c. 10m ENE of 'Drom Farm' house. A circular area (diam. 28m) defined by a low earthen bank (Wth 5.05m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 1.8m) N-SE, by a landscaped bank (Wth 1.95m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 0.85m) SE-W and by a scarp W-N. Small stone steps occur along the external face of the bank at NE. A 19th-century wall retains the bank E-SE. Gaps occur in the bank at SE (Wth 4m), at SW (Wth 4.5m) and at N (Wth 4m). The NE portion of the interior is raised (c. 1.7m) to compensate for the hillslope. According to local information, an apple orchard existed within the area and one apple tree survives in the centre. A souterrain opening (KE075-011001-) in the NE quadrant is covered by a pile of logs. This is probably one of two raths (see KE075-013----) mentioned by Capt. D. B. O'Connell in the 1930s as being '600 yds [549m] S. of Owgarriff Bridge' (SMR file). Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork.
