A standing stone situated on a N facing slope over-looking the Lispole valley. It stands 1.95m high and measures .7m x .3m at base; ENE-WSW. The width increases gradually to .9m at a height of c. 0.6m above the ground, and from there the sides rise vertically to the top which comes to a point at the W. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 107. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Internal diam. 28.5m This circular univallate enclosure is situated on a N facing slope overlooking the Lispole valley. It is bisected N-S by a disused field fence, and the enclosure to E of this survives only as a slight eminence. The W half of the site is enclosed to N by a stone wall and to S by an earthen bank, faced with drystone masonry. The former is 1.1m high internally, 3m high externally and .6m wide; the latter is .5m wide and up to 1.6m high. Neither the bank or the wall differ significantly in construction from the adjacent field fences and it is not clear to what extent they represent the original enclosing element. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 424. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. The circular univallate enclosure marked on the 1st edition of the OS map no longer survives. It was situated on a N facing slope overlooking the Lispole valley. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 683. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Internal diam. 24m ENE-WSW, 19.8m N-S This roughly oval univallate rath lies on a N facing slope overlooking the Lispole valley. The earthen enclosing bank survives only around the NW half of the enclosure. It is .75m high internally and 2m high externally. A very shallow fosse, 2m wide and less than .4m deep, is also faintly discernible and it is separated from the base of the bank by a 2m wide ledge. The SE half of the site is enclosed by a drystone-built field wall which probably preserves the line of the original bank. Access to the interior is provided by gaps between the wall and bank at N and SW, but the original entrance was probably located in the destroyed SE section of the bank. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 425. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. On the N slopes of a low hill (833 feet/254m) overlooking the Lispole valley, this souterrain was discovered about 5 years ago during removal of an overlying mound of stones. The accessible portion consists of a sub-rectangular chamber, aligned ENE-WSW, with a rectangular well entrance located at its E end. Two loose stones cover the well entrance which measures .65m N-S, .62m E-W and 1.3m deep. In its W side, at floor level, is the opening, .95m high and .5m wide, to the chamber. Roofed by 4 flat slabs resting on the slightly inclined dry-stone walls, the chamber measures 1.6m long, .9m wide and 1.3m high. 0.2m below the roof, a large slab, .2m high, extends the full width of the W end wall. At the base is a low opening, only .05m high and .4m wide, which extends W for at least 2m. This would appear to lead to a further chamber or passage, but the accumulation of fill in the accessible chamber and .35m of water prevent further examination. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 763.
