In a graveyard (KE068-003001-). Indicated as a rectangular 'Church in ruins' (c. 15m E-W; c. 8m N-S) on the 1846 OS 6-inch map. There are no visible remains of this church. It is unclear if overgrown mounds at the E and W side of the graveyard are the remnants of the church. In the 1940s it was noted that the 'cemetery wall [was] built with stones from the old chapel about 1810. Two heaps of stones still remain.' (Schools Manuscript, Co. Kerry) Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011 - KE068-003001: Graveyard, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CKE068-003001-. In undulating pasture, with views SW to Macgillycuddy's Reeks. A roughly square graveyard (c. 40m N-S; c. 40m E-W) enclosed by a stone wall, with a road skirting the N and E sides. Inscribed headstones date from 1833 to the early 20th century; uninscribed grave-markers were noted near the outer limits at E, S and W. Overgrown mounds occur at E and at W. The site of a church (KE068-003001-) is within the graveyard. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011 - KE068-081: Fulacht fia, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CKE068-081----. In level marshy grazing, with views SW to the Paps of Dana. A roughly horseshoe-shaped mound (c. 22m E-W; c. 17m N-S; H 1.8m) of burnt material with the opening (7m N-S; c. 7m E-W) facing W, is largely obscured by gorse and briars. An open drain skirts the mound along the S and W sides, and has revealed burnt material along both faces of the drain to a depth of 0.8m. Spoil, containing clay and some burnt material from the drain, is placed haphazardly along the S and W sides of the mound and along the outer bank of the drain. Spoil heaps and machine damage may have distorted the size of the mound. It is largely inaccessible due to dense overgrowth. This is probably the fulacht fia recorded in the 1940s in Mrs D. Murphy's land (listed under the adjoining townland of Knockacappul), and which was described as circular and '20 feet [6.1m] in diameter and 2 feet [0.61m] high' (Schools Manuscript, Co. Kerry). Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011 Works at or in relation to a recorded monument need two months' written notice to the National Monuments Service (National Monuments (Amendment) Act 1994, section 12). ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage) No building of the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage stands in the townland of Freemount. ## Ground and risks (Radon Risk Map of Ireland, EPA; Landslide Susceptibility Classification and LiDAR, Geological Survey Ireland) - Radon: at the centre of the townland of Freemount, about 1 in 10 homes in this area is likely to have high radon levels. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner.
