On the W side of the SW spur of Caunoge mountain, overlooking the upper reaches of the Ferta river valley, are the denuded remnants of this stone enclosure which contains a hut and souterrain. The site is not marked on the OS maps. Only the E side of the enclosure survives, which averages 1.1m wide and is .35m high internally. Slight traces of coursed facing survive. Though no wall survives at W, the interior has been artifically raised to compensate for the slope in the land and its roughly circular outline measures 13.3m in diameter. The foundations of a circular hut (KE080-021002-) occupy the SE quadrant of the enclosure's interior where it abuts the enclosing element. The average width of the foundations is 2.6m. An opening to a souterrain is located adjacent to the hut at N. The E side of the opening is marked by a loose band of collapsed stone walling. Blanket peat covers the lower W slopes of Caunoge mountain on the S side of the Ferta river valley, where turf-cutting has revealed a series of walls in an area measuring 140m N-S x 250m E-W. The majority of these occur between .7m and 1m below the present level of the peat, and vary between .9m and 1.2m thick. They are mainly constructed of intermittent upright boulders, with infilling of small stones between. Most of the walls are linear and run either N-S or E-W; a number of intersections are visible. The complex is bisected by a modern road. An exposed section of outcrop, 2.05m x 1m, located close to one of the walls, features seven cup-marks, eight cup-and-rings and one cup-and-two rings on its upper surface. Half of the circles are incomplete, possibly as a result of weathering. A scattering of pock-marks occurs to one side of the rock art motifs. The above description is derived from A. On a farm road (long axis N-S), in reclaimed and improved pasture. Not located. This monument is recorded in O’Sullivan & Sheehan (1996, 28) along with a pre-bog field system. According to O’Sullivan & Sheehan (ibid) ‘turf cutting has revealed a series of walls in an area measuring 140m N-S x 250m E-W….The complex is bisected by a modern road’. The rock outcrop (2.05m x 1m) containing the rock art motifs is ‘located close to one of the walls’. The decorated surface is described as having ‘seven cupmarks, eight cup-and-rings and one cup-and-two rings on its upper surface. Half of the circles are incomplete, possibly as a result of weathering. A scattering of pockmarks occurs to one side of the rock art motifs (ibid).
