The interior slopes to the W with a long narrow depression (L 13m; Wth 6.5m; D 0.55m), possibly indicating the presence of a collapsed souterrain, in the SW quadrant. In pasture, on a NNW-facing slope. Depicted on the 2nd ed. (1897-8) OS 6-inch map as a circular area (diam. c. 29m) enclosed by a bank W-S and by a field boundary S-W. A small stretch of an earthen enclosing bank has been preserved in a field boundary along the SW arc while elsewhere a slight rise in the field suggests the line of bank. In pasture, on a S-facing slope. Depicted on the 2nd ed. (1897-8) OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular area (c. 36m N-S; 34m E-W) enclosed by a bank and external fosse. This ringfort has been largely levelled although a short stretch of the enclosing bank (int. H 1.05m; ext. H 2.3m) has been incorporated into a field boundary at SSW. A scarped edge (H 0.6m) at W suggests the line of the bank with a slight depression (Wth 7m) accentuated by luxuriant grass growth at N, NW and S indicating the presence of a fosse. The interior is under pasture and slopes gently to the S. On the 1st ed. (1841) OS 6-inch map a ‘cave’, suggesting the presence of a souterrain (KE022-014002-), is depicted within the interior at W. In pasture, on a S-facing slope. According to O’Connell (1938, 145), on the NW side of the ringfort (KE022-014----) a number of large pits with charcoal stained sides were visible cutting through the fosse and bank material. These possibly suggest the presence of a kiln, a localised quarry or the remains of a metalworking site. A disused limekiln is depicted on the OS 25-inch map (1892) map c. 240m ENE. O’Connell (1938, 145) mentions an infilled souterrain here which was often used during the ‘Troubles’ and notes that ‘it is often stated that there are steps leading down to a passage, and that there are three rooms ‘like beehives’ opening one from the other, and that one could stand in them’. The interior is cut by a field boundary on an E-W axis just S of centre with a possible mound and a linear feature depicted in the S half. On the 1st ed. (1841) OS 6-inch map a ‘cave’, suggesting the presence of a souterrain (KE022-015001-), is depicted within the interior at W. In pasture, on terrain which slopes gently to the E. A roughly square area (22.7m N-S; 20m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank with rounded corners. The bank (int. H 0.65m; ext. H 1.55m) is best preserved at NNW. In the level interior, a low rise/bank (int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.3m) runs parallel with the enclosing bank in the SE quadrant. A berm (Wth 1m; L 2.45m) is visible along the base of the external face of bank at W separating it from an adjacent field drain and boundary which skirts around the enclosure from W-NNE. O’Connell (1938, 145) mentions that ‘two fields to the south of the fort [KE022-014----] and near the river, there is a large squat gallaun, shaped roughly like a chair. The local story is that ‘Finn McCool’ threw it there from the top of a nearby hill’. No visible surface trace of the standing stone was evident when surveyed in 1985 and the landowner did not have any knowledge of its existence. According to the landowner, the ringfort was levelled sometime in the late 1950s. When inspected in 1985 it was visible as a low saucer-shaped rise (H 0.4m; 25m N-S; 24m E-W) best preserved E-W. No trace of a fosse was noted. On the 1st ed. (1841) OS 6-inch map a ‘cave’, suggesting the presence of a souterrain (KE022-022001-), is depicted within the interior just N of centre.
