Internal diam. 29.6m This roughly circular univallate rath is located high on the E side of the ridge that separates Glannagalt from Glanmane, and it commands a magnificent view along the valleys and across the coastal plain and Tralee Bay as far as the Magharee islands and Kerry Head. The surrounding land is rough, scrubby pasture at present, but traces of cultivation ridges in the area indicate that it was once more intensively cultivated. The site is enclosed by an earthen bank and fosse, but only a 1.2m high scarp survives in the NE quadrant, the interior being raised above the external ground level on this downslope side. The bank ranges from .25 to 1.6m in height internally on the upslope and downslope sides respectively, and from .3 to 1.1m high externally. The fosse is c. 2m wide at base and its outer flank merges with the natural hillslope without any clear break. As the bank is elsewhere continuous, the entrance must have been located in the NE quadrant. A small shelter for shepherds or animals has been constructed in the fosse at S. In the interior, a sub-rectangular, drystone-lined depression abuts the bank at NNE. It measures .94m x 1.48m x .71m deep and is enclosed by a stony bank no more than .3m high. The function of this feature is not known. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 437. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. On a gentle E facing slope at the base of the ridge defining the W side of Gleann na nGealt, this stone stands 2.2m high and measures 1.4m x .34m at base tapering to a rounded top; NNE-SSW. It inclines slightly to W. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 110. A 'ring of dark soil' was revealed when this field was ploughed and a small 'cave' was discovered within it (local information). It is possible that these were the remains of a ringfort and souterrain. The site is located on a relatively level terrace on a generally steep ENE facing slope overlooking Gleann na nGealt. This possible rath is situated within a small wood on a steep NE facing slope overlooking Gleann na nGealt. The circular, level platform which forms the interior measures 14 to 15m in diameter. To W it is defined by a very steep scarp, c. 4 to 4.5m high, which merges with the hillslope above. To E the rim of the platform is raised very slightly above the interior and at least 1.5m above the external ground level. Some stones set on edge in the interior are not now visible but may have formed part of a souterrain (local information). The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Internal diam. 23.8m N-S, 26.2m E-W This bivallate rath, situated on a fairly steep E facing slope, commands an excellent view along Gleann na nGealt as far as Tralee Bay to N. The inner bank varies from .4 to 1.7m in height internally and falls a maximum of 3m to the base of the fosse. The fosse averages 3m in width and has been much disturbed by cattle. The outer bank rises from .4 to 1.4m above the base of the fosse and averages .6m in height externally; to W it doubles as a field boundary fence. There are slight traces of an outer fosse, 2m wide and .4m deep, along the W sector but this may be natural or accidental. A lane runs N-S alongside the site at E. A .9m wide gap through the banks at WSW appears to be an animal track. The original entrance lies to SE where a 2.9m wide causeway leads across the fosse between a 3.50m wide gap in the outer bank and a 1.5m wide gap in the inner bank. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 436. There was reputedly a fort at this point on the W bank of the Glannagalt river. It is locally known as Lisroe/Lios Rua though, on the OS maps, this name is applied to a ringfort on the opposite side of the river in Scrallaghbeg townland (KE036-065----). When visited in 1946 (CKFC, 669) it was described as 'a single mound in the heart of a swamp' and there are now no visible remains. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Internal diam. 17.8m N-S, 15m E-W A univallate rath located on a steep E facing slope at the head of Gleann na nGealt. A short stretch of the enclosing bank and fosse has been entirely removed where a modern gully encroaches on the site at S. They have also been levelled along the downslope E side, but here the outline of the enclosure is preserved as a scarp which falls 1.75m to the exterior. The earthen bank enclosing the remainder of the site reaches a maximum height of 2.75m internally and .65m externally; it is c. 3.8m wide at base. The external fosse averages 2m in width and is approximately 1m deep though there is no clear distinction between its outer edge and the rising hillslope beyond. The interior is occupied by a series of cultivation ridges. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. When first recorded (An Seabhac 1939, 285), this cross-slab was incorporated into a bridge which spanned the Glannagalt stream near the head of the valley. It now lies loose on the ground about 20m to NE of its former location. It is a long rectangular-sectioned stone measuring 1.4m in length and .15 to .2m in width. At the centre of one face is a cross of arcs within a circle. At the intersection of the arcs, a roughly circular boss stands out in slight relief. Pendant from the circle is a short stem which divides in two to form a rounded triangle at the base.
