In pasture, on a SW-facing slope. A roughly semicircular area (15.4m NW-SE) defined by a curving bank (int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.7m) SW-NE and by a field boundary along its straight SE side (L 28m). A slight indication of a fosse is evident along the WNW arc. The interior slopes down to the ESE. The rath is outlined on the 1846 and 1897 OS 6-inch maps as a semicircular area (c. 18m NW-SE) with the straight SE side (L c. 30m) formed by a field boundary. It is probably the rath, 'which is not known by any particular name', which was recorded in Gortalassa townland in the 1840s (OSNB, Molahiffe, no. 1, 17). In pasture, on a NW-facing slope. This rath has been levelled. The remains of an earthen bank is clearly evident, along the W, NW, N and SSE arcs, enclosing a circular area (34m N-S; c. 34m E-W). The bank (Wth 6m; int. H 0.15m; ext. H 0.4m) along the SSE arc is skirted externally by a linear field boundary. A linear NNW-SSE field boundary defines the NE sector. The interior is level. A stone located immediately inside the bank at WNW may cover a souterrain (KE048-055001-). This is the 'remarkably large' rath recorded in Gortalassa in the 1840s and 'from which the townland derives its name' (OSNB, Molahiffe, no. 1, 17). It is indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map as an oval area (c. 60m E-W; c. 50m N-S) with field boundaries extending from the bank at N, ESE, SSE and S. On the 1897 OS 6-inch map it is indicated as the remains of a circular enclosure (diam. c. 50m) truncated at NE and SW by linear field boundaries. In a rath (KE048-055----). A large sandstone boulder (L 3.3m; 0.8m x T 0.8m) covers a hollow, immediately inside the bank of the rath at WNW. There are numerous loose stones in the hollow, some of which appear to form drystone walling. The landowner recalls his father stating that it was almost possible for an adult to stand up in the hollow. According to the landowner, the cross, sword, harp and shamrock faintly engraved on the WSW end of the stone were done by a local man in the early years of the 20th century. In the 1840s, a 'large cavern' with a 'large stone about 12 feet [3.65m] in length lying flat over the entrance' was recorded in the W side of the rath (OSNB, Molahiffe, no. 1, 42).
