Gortlissaline: This circular rath is located in upland pasture on the S slopes of Bentee, overlooking the Oghermong river valley. It is bounded along its NW sector by a ravine through which a tributary of the Oghermong flows, and elsewhere it is enclosed by a bank, an external fosse and possibly an outer bank. The latter is extant only at NE, where it rises .9m above the base of the fosse. The flat-bottomed fosse is best preserved from N to SE and measures 3.8m wide. The inner bank rises a maximum of 2.4m above the fosse at S, and varies in height from .45m to 1.1m above the interior. It has an average basal width of 3.6m and is composed of earth and gravel. Its inner flank is faced with a series of upright slabs at S, and some drystone masonry is preserved on either side of the eroded, 3.8m wide, entrance gap at SE. A causeway crosses the fosse at this point. The uneven interior of the rath features scatterings of loose stone. A low stony mound located in the NW quadrant may be the remains of a collapsed hut (KE079-070001-), with a possible entrance at E. It measures 8m in overall diameter. This site, which is not marked on the OS maps, is located on the lower S slopes of Bentee mountain at the head of the Oghermong river valley. Its situation affords an extensive outlook to W, towards Portmagee Channel. The site consists of the poorly preserved remains of an oratory with a decorated lintel, a bullaun stone, and, formerly, traces of other buildings. Oratory (KE079-087001-): The remains of this rectangular building are located just above a natural scarp, 1.4m high, which is roughly revetted at S with large stones. Only its S sidewall, a portion of its W end-wall, and slight traces of its E end-wall are preserved. These walls are faced horizontally with large slabs which are carefully laid along the slightly corbelled inner face. A number of slabs which cross the SW internal angle are cut to the form of this corner. The walls stand to a maximum height of .95m and average 1.6m in basal width. A short stretch of a .4m wide offset, coped with large slabs laid end-to-end, is preserved on the outer face of the S wall. This is interrupted by traces of the W jamb of a window ope, only two courses of which remain. The N and E wall foundations may be detected by probing. The oratory measured c. 6m E-W x c. 4m N-S internally. The lintelled doorway is located in the W wall and is largely obscured by collapse. It inclines in elevation from the present basal width of .6m to .65m in height. The outer face of its external lintel, now slightly displaced, is decorated with a series of motifs which is dominated by two somewhat irregular, shallow Maltese crosses. Between these, at the centre of the decorated face, are two motifs, one located above the other; the upper is a shallow trapezoid, and below it are two concentric, subcircular rings, formed with grooves. At left, close to the upper edge of the stone, is a subrectangle formed with broad grooves. Near the opposite end of the stone is a plain rectangle formed with broad grooves. Bullaun Stone (KE079-087003-): This small bullaun lies outside the oratory doorway. It was found in the 1930s in a ploughed field nearby (IFC Schools' Collection). Triangular in form, it measures .45m x .28m and features a hemispherical depression, .24m in diameter. Buildings (KE079-087002-): The foundations of buildings, 'probably beehive cells', were noted at the site in the 1930s (OPW). Internal diam. 11.6m N-S, 16.3m E-W Caher/An Chathair: This oval-shaped site is located on the S facing slopes of Bentee mountain, overlooking the valley of the Oghermong river to W. The enclosing element is severely denuded and overgrown, and is best preserved along its N sector. Exposed portions reveal that the bank is of stony composition, with large boulders forming the lower courses. At its uphill, N side it measures 1.1m high externally, 1.5m high internally and 4.3m in basal width. Much overgrown stone collapse abuts the barely traceable wall in the site's S sector. The remnants of an oval-shaped drystone hut (KE079-090002-), marked 'Cloghaun (site of)' on the second edition of the OS map, are located in the S half of the site's interior. It measures 5.3m x 4.2m internally, and its walls average 1m thick. Just SE of the hut is an 8m long trench, aligned NW-SW, which probably represents a dug-out section of the souterrain (KE079-090003-) marked 'Cave' on the OS maps. Internal diam. 20.8m N-S This site is located in rough upland pasture at the head of the Oghermong river valley, overlooking Valencia Harbour to W. A roadway cuts through it and has levelled its NE sector. Elsewhere the site is defined by a gently sloping platform of roughly circular plan which is enclosed by a low bank surviving up to .7m high. Intermittent stretches of drystone facing, sections of which have collapsed, revet the bank. Two possible entrances to the monument survive at ESE and SW. A number of low amorphous mounds occur in the N half of its interior. There is no trace of the 'Gallaun' (KE079-091002-) depicted on the OS maps in the rath's interior at E. Deeply buried in rough boggy ground, this fairly well-preserved wedge-tomb is located on a small platform on the N side of the valley between Bentee and Aghatubrid mountains. It commands a wide outlook to W, over the basin of the Oghermong river to Valencia Island and the sea beyond. The field in which it is located is known locally as 'Gortaleaca'. It consists of a chamber, roofed with two slabs, with the remains of aportico at its W end. Faint traces of a mound are visible on its S side. The chamber measures at least 2.9m in overall length and is aligned ENE-WSW. A markedly inclined septal-stone and an orthostat representing the N side of the portico are exposed at its W end. Two orthostats, decreasing in height towards E, form the S side of the chamber, while a collapsed side-stone is partly visible at N. Resting on the septal-stone is the high-pitched W roof-stone; it is slightly displaced and its E end is concealed by an overgrowth of peat which also overlies the adjacent E roof-stone.
