A possible souterrain (KE093-017002-) lies just E of the centre. The rath is overgrown with trees and bushes around the perimeter and bushes and ferns in the interior. It is indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map as a circular area (diam. c. 30m) defined by a broken line, at the junction of three fields, and named 'Site of Fort'. It was indicated as a circle of stones (diam. c. 10m), enclosing a central stone, on the 1846 OS 6-inch map. A sketch of it from the 1842 OS Memoranda, County Kerry, reproduced by Ó Nualláin (1984a, 63, fig. 12) depicts a circle of eleven stones surrounding a central stone, which appears to have had a cupmark on its upper surface. The caption on the sketch reads: 'An ancient circle of gallauns varying from 2 to 3 feet [0.6-0.91m] high and some lying prostrate' (ibid.). Ó Nualláin (1975, 86) suggests that the central stone may have been the capstone of a boulder-burial (KE093-018001-). In level pasture, to the N of Kenmare Bay. Indicated as a standing stone surrounded by a circular feature (diam. c. 20m), possibly consisting of smaller stones, on the 1846 OS 6-inch map. In 1841 it was recorded that 'At the distance of about one furlong [c. 200m] from the modern church of this Parish to the East there is a very remarkable Gallán or standing stone surrounded by several smaller stones but not placed in a regular circle. It is called Gallan na Cille Bige i.e. the Pillar of the Small Church, but there is no tradition in connection with its origin or use' (OSL, 183). In pasture, to the N of Kenmare Bay. This house no longer survives. According to local information, its ruins were removed in the 1960s/70s by Kerry County Council. It is described by Bary (1994, 156) as having been a small two-storey house with a chimney on each gable and a steep slated roof. There was a square stableyard to the rear. The walls of a small stone-built structure (int. dims: 1.85m x 1.35m; max. H of walls 1.9m), said to have been a lavatory, stand to the E of the house site. A cylindrical stone pillar (H 0.75m; diam. 0.25m) surmounted by a hexagonal stone (H 0.25m; diam. 0.25m) stands to the SW of the lavatory; this is reputedly the base of a sundial. Gate piers (H 2m) of coursed stone mark the entrance to the demesne from the road. The date of the house is uncertain but there appears to have been a dwelling on the site in the 17th-century which was occupied by Joseph Taylor, an officer in the Cromwellian army (Orpen 1930, 74). The house was subsequently associated with the Orpen and Palmer families. This house is sometimes confused with 'White House', another house (KE093-100---) in the same townland, which was referred to as 'Killowen house' by Sir William Petty in his journal of 1675 (Wood 1934, 39). In Kenmare golf course. A layer (T 0.4m; L 4m) of burnt material embedded in peaty soil, is exposed on both sides of a V-shaped drain, which is used as a golf bunker. In pasture, on the gentle rise of a headland on the N shore of Kenmare Bay. The ruin of a rectangular (ext. dims. 14.5m x 7m) two-storey house (long axis WSW-ENE) consisting of gable ends which still stand to first floor height and short returns of the sidewalls. There are fragmentary remains of internally projecting fireplaces, that originally had large wooden lintels. According to local information, the house was built c. 1673 as part of Sir William Petty's 17th-century plantation and was the site of a siege in 1688/9. According to Bary (1994, 244), the house was defended by the erection of earthworks but there are no visible remains of these. According to Orpen (1930, 41), two wooden balconies were added to opposite corners of the house for defensive purposes (Orpen 1930, 75). McCarthy (1993, 41) describes the house as having 'four large rooms and a garret and two fine hearths with high chimneys.' In an entry in Sir William Petty's journal dated 30 August 1683 this house is referred to as 'Killowen house' (Wood 1934, 39); this has subsequently resulted in some confusion between this and another house (KE093-021001-), in the same townland, which is named 'Killowen Ho.' on the OS 6-inch map. In a graveyard (KE093-115002-), on the S side of a road c. 1km NE of Kenmare town. A roofless rectangular Church of Ireland church (ext. 17.75m E-W; 7.5m N-S) built of of random rubble, with render surviving at the W end. It is lit by four pointed windows in the S wall and a large pointed window in the E wall. There is a three-storey tower (ext. 3.8m N-S; 2.85m E-W) at the W end with a pointed door in its S wall; internally the ground floor and first floor are roughly circular in plan. The parapet has stepped crenellations, surmounted by pinnacles, at the corners. A limestone plaque on the exterior of the S wall of the tower records that the church was rebuilt in 1814. On the S side of a road c. 1 km NE of Kenmare town. A rectangular area (c. 70m NE-SW; c. 60m NW-SE) bounded by a stone wall is named 'Burial Ground' on the 1846 OS 6-inch map. The earliest gravestones noted date to the late 18th-century; it is still in use. The ruin of a Church of Ireland church (KE093-115001-) lies in the N half. - Kenmare Church, church/chapel, 1810–1815, Regional interest, registry number 21309302, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=KE&regno=21309302. Freestanding double-height Georgian Gothic Revival style Board of First Fruits Church of Ireland church, dated 1814, with four-bay nave and single-bay two-stage entrance tower to west gable end on a square plan. Ruinous in 1895. No roof to nave. Stepped parapet to tower with corner obelisks in limestone, two remain in place the other two now are at ground levels. Roughcast rendered rubble stone walls limestone ashlar string courses to tower and carved limestone plaque above south entrance. Pointed arch openings to tower and to south wall of nave with limestone sills. Pointed arch door openings. Graveyard to site with various cut-stone grave markers, c. 1815-1950, including grave of Ernest John Moeran, composer (1894-1950). Gateway, built c. 1815, to north comprising pair of stone piers with wrought-iron gates.
- Shelburne Lodge, house, 1780–1820, Regional interest, registry number 21401001, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=KE&regno=21401001. Detached triple-pile four-bay two-storey house with half-dormer attic, built c. 1800, on a U-shaped plan possibly incorporating fabric of earlier house, built c. 1725, to central pile. Now also in use as guest house. Pitched slate roofs with rendered chimneystacks. Exposed stone walls. Segmental-headed door opening to ground floor having fanlight. Bipartite window openings to front elevation to east. Three-bay two-storey triple-gable-fronted side elevation to south originally with hood mouldings to openings to central bay. Three-bay two-storey rear elevation with half-dormer attic to west. Detached five-bay single-storey rubble stone-built house, built c. 1800, to west, now derelict. Gateway, built c. 1800, to south comprising pair of render piers with wrought-iron gates.
