There is no visible trace of the stone marked in this location as ‘Gallaun’ on the second edition of the OS map. It was situated in pastureland on the lower W slopes of Seefin. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 244. ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage)

- Glenbeigh Towers, country house, 1865–1875, National interest, registry number 21306301, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=KE&regno=21306301. Remains of detached two-bay three-storey over raised base stone-built Medieval Revival style Victorian tower house with attic, built 1867-1871, with batter to base, single-bay three-storey engaged octagonal turret to south-east corner originally with octagonal spire, two-bay side elevation and originally with recessed gable ends to attic. Originally about a courtyard, burnt in 1922 and now ruinous and mostly collapsed with south-east corner remaining. Sandstone rubble stone walls with ashlar string courses and quoins. Sandstone ashlar surrounds to window openings with pointed, trefoil or square-heads having stepped sandstone sill courses. Remains of detached single-bay single-storey stone-built bastion, built 1867-1871, to west with base batter, gun loops and originally connected to main block with battered bawn wall, now ruinous. Remains of detached two-bay single-storey stone-built outbuilding, built 1867-1871, to north-east, now ruinous and mostly collapsed.
- Glenbeigh Church (Glanbehy), church/chapel, 1895–1905, Regional interest, registry number 21306302, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=KE&regno=21306302. Freestanding Church of Ireland church, built c. 1900, with three-bay nave, single-bay two-stage entrance tower to south-west corner with limestone ashlar spire, two-bay single-storey lean-to vestry projection to south-west gable end and single-bay double-height polygonal apse to north-east gable end. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles, concrete gable copings, cast-iron gutter, hoppers and downpipes and limestone ashlar upper stage and spire to tower. Exposed random squared red sandstone walls with grey limestone quoins and dressings to buttresses, and having profiled red brick eaves course. Pointed arch openings with diamond-pattern leaded glazing, red brick surrounds and tooled limestone sills. Arched tripartite chancel window. Replacement timber boarded door approached by flight of limestone steps. Graveyard to site with various cut-stone grave markers, c. 1800-present. Gateway, built c. 1800, to north-west comprising pair of cast-iron piers with hoop iron gates. Rubble retaining wall to road.

Detached six-bay two-storey hotel, built c. 1900, originally on an L-shaped plan, with seven-bay single-storey lean-to open veranda to ground floor having gablet to centre and three-bay single-storey wing with half-dormer attic at right angles to south-west. Renovated and extended to south-west, c. 1970, comprising six-bay two-storey parallel range with six-bay two-storey flat-roofed lower parallel return. Later extension to north-west, comprising seven-bay two-storey wing with single-bay single-storey gabled box oriel windows. Pitched and hipped artificial slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and gabled half-dormers to front. Rendered walls, painted to corner section. Snecked sandstone facing to north east façade. Horizontal timber boarding to west additions. Sandstone facing to pubfront. Timber one-over-one pane sliding sash windows with painted sills. Painted brick flat arches and reveals to hotel block. Segmental-headed openings to corner section. Double-leaf panelled door with overlight to hotel. Gabled porch to public house. Retaining interior features. Garden to rear.
- Saint James's Catholic Church, church/chapel, 1860–1900, Regional interest, registry number 21306304, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=KE&regno=21306304. Freestanding double-height Gothic Revival Roman Catholic church, built c. 1880, with seven-bay nave, single-bay single-storey lean-to advanced chapel to north corner, single-bay single-storey sacristy projection to south corner and bellcote to north-west gable end. Renovated and extended, c. 1910, with single-bay double-height gabled transept added to south-west elevation. Late twentieth century single-bay single-storey flat-roofed projecting bay added to sacristy. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge comb and having limestone ashlar chimneystack to sacristy. Exposed coursed sandstone rubble walls with grey limestone quoins. Single lancets to nave, triple lancets to transept and chancel, all having limestone surrounds. Pointed arched door opening with stepped limestone surround and double-leaf boarded door with original lock. Doorway on north wall blocked up. Open truss roof to interior with single transept to south west gallery. Chancel reordered. Stained glass panels to chancel, transept and one to nave. Original marble side altars. Gothic Revival panelled confessional doors. Freestanding cut-stone Celtic Cross style grave marker, c. 1910, to site. Gateway, built c. 1880, to north-west comprising pair of piers with cast-iron gates and railings.
