Internal diam. 24.2m N-S, 20.9m E-W A univallate rath situated on the S slopes of Knockavrogeen. A level platform was created to achieve a level interior for the site which is enclosed by a single earthen bank and by an external fosse which is present along the E and N sides only. The latter is up to 1.05m deep and c. 2.7m wide. The bank rises up to 2.2m above the bottom of the fosse and is a maximum of c. 2.9m high internally, but it has been interfered with considerably. Its internal height is very slight along the downhill S sector. The W section deviates from the regular curving outline of the remainder, as if it had been pushed inwards. The bank has been incorporated into a field fence along the N and E sectors and now consists of a combination of stretches of drystone-walling, earthen bank and earthen bank revetted with drystone masonry. Internal diam. c. 29m NE-SW, c. 27m NW-SE Lisnahorna/Lios na hEornan: A univallate rath situated on a W facing slope overlooking the narrow valley of a tributary of the Milltown river. It is enclosed by an earthen bank and fosse and there is a souterrain and possible hut-site in the interior. The fosse is only barely perceptible along the S sector, but elsewhere it has been reused as a laneway and is up to 2m deep and c. 2.3m wide at base. This may not reflect its original dimensions as the lane, when it diverges from the rath, also lies well below the general level of the field. Fragments of drystone facing adhere to the outer flank of the fosse but this may relate to its later use. A discontinuous field fence runs along the outer, upper edge of the lane. The bank varies from 2 to 3m in height above the bottom of the fosse and is up to c. 2m high internally. There are slight traces of drystone facing at points along its inner flank. The inner flank is also stepped for most of its circumference. An earthen field bank may have been constructed on top of the bank, thus creating this stepped profile, but this is not certain. The entrance gap faces SE. It is c. 1m wide but has been disturbed by animal traffic. The fosse is only faintly discernible in this sector and it was not possible to trace a definite causeway. A low mound of stone collapse in the interior of the site may mark the site of a hut but there is too little evidence for definite interpretation. The mound is 6.8m long and no more than .4m high. The souterrain which lies in the N sector of the interior is now inaccessible, but 2 openings allow part of it to be viewed. The visible section is roughly Z-shaped in plan. The southernmost opening consists of an earth-cut well which appears to be the original entrance. A lintelled opening, .6m wide x .6m high, on the N side of the well, opens into a slightly wider space, now blocked by collapse after a distance of 1.5m. The W side-wall is of drystone construction and is curved in plan. A short passage extends ESE from this. It is c. 0.8m wide, 2m long and the walls are constructed mainly of large upright slabs with some drystone walling filling the interstices. The collapse at the N side of the 1st chamber or entrance lobby conceals a short passage which opens onto the E end of the S wall of a passage which extends WNW for at least 2.5m and which is .65m high and .5m wide. Internal diam. 36.25m E-W, 34.4m N-S A circular univallate rath situated in fairly level pastureland on the SE slopes of Knockavrogeen, overlooking the broad valley which stretches S towards Dingle Harbour. It is enclosed by an earthen bank and a very faint external fosse which is traceable only along the N and E sectors. The bank is c. 2.6 to 3.45m wide at base, a maximum of 2.3m high externally and a maximum of 1.75m high internally. There is a 1m wide gap at S, on the W side of a field fence which radiates out from the site at this point. A 2nd gap at NW appears to be modern. There are a number of field clearance cairns in the interior and stones have also been dumped against the inner face of the bank in places. The above description is derived from J. Internal diam. 26.7m Lisnapreaghaun/Lios na bPréachán: A circular univallate rath situated about 400m W of KE043-131----, on the S slopes of Knockavrogeen. It is enclosed by an earthen bank and a shallow external fosse. The fosse averages 3m in width and its outer edge is surmounted by a field fence along the N sector. The bank reaches a maximum height of 3.15m at S. The entrance gap at SE is 1.85m wide. Three stones on the inner side of the entrance may be the remains of a pathway, and a couple of stones in the outer face of the bank, directly S of the entrance, may be the remains of a drystone revetment. Tobernaplaw/Tobar na Plá (The Well of the Plague): A pool of stagnant water marks the site of this well which formerly consisted of a spring with a small stream flowing S from it (OSNB Kildrum, 32). It lies about 140m to NW of the early church site at Kilfountan (KE043-144002-) but was not considered to be a holy well; tradition maintains that it received its name after it had cured a plague which raged in Corca Dhuibhne (OSL). Ó Danachair (1960, 77) recorded the following details about this well; ' "Tober na plaw" on 1842 map. "Tobar na Pláighe" - An Seabhac, op. cit. A spring in a marshy field. "Not esteemed a holy well at present, tho' according to tradition it received its name from its having on one occasion cured a plague " - OSL'. The cist burial is located on the south-western downslope of a low hill (An Garrán), giving extensive views from west through south to west). It is orientated east-west. It comprises a main chamber to the east and an antechamber to the west. The main chamber is now open from the top, following the removal of the capstone, and six vertical orthostats form a roughly semi-circular end of the chamber to the east. The feature narrows to a rectangular antechamber, currently roofed with stones to the west but it was accessible from the eastern side. This chamber is also lined with vertical orthostats. The main chamber is divided into an upper compartment, into which direct access is now possible, and a basal compartment), which is located beneath the floor slabs of the upper compartment and which is visible only from the antechamber, looking east. Bone, both burnt and unburnt, was clearly visible within the main chamber, upper compartment.
