Planning permission is also sought for 1 no. 38kV substation and associated electrical compound, including single storey control building, line bay, transformer and accompanying apparatus, and associated grid connection between the proposed substation and Oughtragh 110kV substation comprising 38kV underground electricity cabling of c.3.87km in length to be provided in an excavated trench on private lands and the L11003, L8003 and L80030 public roads, and all associated site development and reinstatement works. The project will also include 33kV underground interconnector electrical cabling within the development site and within the L11003 public road, temporary construction compounds, security fencing, CCTV, access tracks, landscaping (including hedgerow removal and planting), drainage and all ancillary development works and apparatus necessary to facilitate the proposed development. Construction and operational access will be via 6 no. entrances from the L11003 and L80030, with 1 no. of these entrances used for the temporary construction phase only. In pasture, on a gentle SW-facing slope. An oval area (40m N-S; c. 33m E-W) defined by a low severely eroded earthen bank (Wth 2.1m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.2m) N-S and by a more substantial earthen bank, which is incorporated into the field boundary, S-N. There are gaps at NNE (Wth 3m) and S (Wth 2.5m). The interior slopes down to the SW. According to local information, a natural spring flows from N to S through the rath. Some trees line the edge of the interior. It is indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 50m), at the junction of four fields. In pasture, on the break of a S-facing slope. A circular area (c. 25m E-W; c. 23m N-S) defined by an arc of bank (Wth 2.1m; int. H 1.3m; ext. H 1.6m) ESE-NW. According to the landowner, the bank was levelled NW-ESE in the 1980s. It is incorporated into the field boundary system S-W. A fosse is visible W-NW as a shallow depression covered in nettle growth. It is indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map as a roughly D-shaped enclosure (dim. c. 25m N-S) with an almost straight S side (L 30m). On the 1895 OS 6-inch map the NE arc is indicated as a hachured scarp. A souterrain (KE057-022001-) is associated with this rath.
