Small fragments and flecks of cremated bone were recovered from the fill of five of these pits. These were too small to positively identify as being human (B. Ó Donnabháin, pers. comm.) Charcoal recovered from the upper fill of two of these pits was deemed to be unreliable for dating purposes, as it may have come from nearby modern bonfire remains, being dragged towards these pits in the course of ploughing.
