Rathmorrell Castle. Very little is known about this castle. It is believed to have been built by the D'Cantillon family. O'Donovan (1841) states that it was a rectangular building, the walls of which remained to a height of 20 feet (6m). However, today only a slight trace of the castle remains. The walls were removed some time ago and used in the construction of a track and shed which lie immediately N of the castle. The castle now shows no signs of being rectangular in shape: all that remains is a mound of rubble measuring 25m N-S, 46m E-W and 1.7m on average in height. The above description is derived from C.
