In pasture, on a break on a S-facing slope. This rath is not visible at ground level and a farm trackway crosses the approximate area of it. It is indicated on the 1895 OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 50m). According to local information, it was levelled in the 1970s. It was described in the 1940s as a 'large' fort (Minutes of the Co. Kerry Field Club, 1945, vol. 1, 610-11). A souterrain (KE057-023001-) and six ogham stones (KE057-023002-, KE057-023003-, KE057-023004-, KE057-023005-, KE057-023006-, KE057-023007-) are associated with this rath. In a rath (KE057-023----). In the 1940s it was recorded that the roof of a large passage had collapsed giving access to a souterrain in the centre of this rath (Minutes of the Co. Kerry Field Club, 1945, vol. 1, 610-11). The passage led into a chamber (Wth 4ft [1.22m]; H 5ft [1.52m]) roofed with stone slabs and a 'fireplace...with a well constructed flue' and an air shaft overhead were also described (ibid.). At least one further chamber was discerned at the time but it was not investigated. The landowner recalls an entrance into a small chamber from where access to a similar chamber was gained. Six ogham stones (KE057-023002-, KE057-023003-, KE057-023004-, KE057-023005-, KE057-023006-, KE057-023007-) were used as roof lintels in the souterrain. Macalister (1945, 239) noted that four of the stones were taken from the souterrain and used in the building of a cottage in the village of Laharan. Subsequently three of the four stones were removed to Lord Dunraven's mansion at Adare (ibid.) where they still are (see LI021-034003-, LI021-034004-, LI021-034005-). The fourth was left behind, and 'is now lost to sight' (ibid., 240). This stone, now at Adare Manor (LI021-034003-), was described by Brash (1879, 222) as an irregular pillar of pale red sandstone 'standing 4ft. 11in. [1.25m]) above ground, 9in. square [0.23m]) at bottom, and 8in [0.2m] by 4in [0.1m]) at top' and 'having two angles on the same face inscribed'. Macalister (1945, 240, no. 243) also described this stone and read its inscription as MAQI-RITTE MAQI COLABOT MAQI MOCO QERAI. This stone , now at Adare Manor (LI021-034004-), was described by Brash (1879, 222-3) as 'a tall, tapering monolith standing 6ft. 10in. [2.08m] high above ground, and 11in. [0.27m] by 101/2in. [0.26m]) at bottom' and inscribed on two angles of the same face. Macalister (1945, 240, no. 244) read the inscription as 'COILLABBOTAS MAQI CORBBI MAQI MOCOI QERAI' and suggested that this stone 'possibly commemorates the father of the owner of No. I'. Macalister also recorded that this stone served as a lintel over the front door of the house of a man named Patrick Quirk (ibid., 241).
