According to Dowling (1935-45, 351), 'Crosspatrick (is) an old graveyard in which St. Patrick, according to tradition, founded a church'. Prominently sited on a hilltop with extensive but apparently disused sandpits immediately outside the monument at SW and ESE. The remains comprise a ruined church (KD018-001001-) in a graveyard (KD018-001002-) which also contains five Early Christian cross-slabs (KD018-001003- to KD018-001007-) and a medieval architectural fragment (KD018-001008-), probably from the church. The church lies on the S side of a low, grass-covered, sub-rectangular mound (dims. L 19m E-W; Wth 9m; H 0.4-0.8m) located at the highest point, to W of centre, in the graveyard. A rectangular area (int. dims. L 9m E-W; Wth 5m) is defined by low, modern, mortared stone walls (H 0.2m; T 0.4m) erected by the 'Crosspatrick Cemetery Committee', and the interior is covered with gravel chippings. The interior slopes down from N to S and a ruined church (KD018-001001-) lies to W of centre. The graveyard also contains five Early Christian cross-slabs (KD018-001003- to KD018-001007- ) and a medieval architectural fragment (KD018-001008-). Headstones dating to the 18th and 19th century stand to the S of the church with 19th and 20th century headstones to its N and E. The E-half of the graveyard contains regularly spaced rows of small concrete crosses dating to the 1940's and '50's. A slightly crudely executed, earthfast fragment of reddish/brown conglomerate stone comprises a roughly rounded head with an unevenly incised Greek cross on its E face (total dims. A very fine, tapering, earthfast shaft of reddish/brown conglomerate stone with a rounded head carrying a Greek cross on its E face (total dims. H 0.86m; T 0.08-0.10m; Wth of shaft at base 0.3m; Wth of shaft at top 0.36m; diam. of head 0.39m). L 0.55m; Wth 0.2m) contains a mortice for a mullion, and a bar-slot hole at one end. On a narrow, level terrace near the S-foot of a long gentle hill-slope in mixed tillage and pasture. A poorly preserved, heavily overgrown, oval earthen mound (ext. diams. 46m E-W; 31m N-S; H 1.2m at W-2.2m at S; surface diams. 17m E-W; 9m N-S) has been partially quarried away along E and S where poaching by sheltering livestock reveals a lot of boulders and small stones in its composition.
