The Rinawade - Dunfirth Tee - Kinnegad 110 kV OHL circuit runs through County Meath, County Kildare and County Offaly. It is 54 km in length and travels from Kinnegad 110 kV substation in Killaskillen (County Meath) and traverses southeast where a short loop into Dunfirth 110 kV substation in Dunfirth (County Kildare) exists. The line then continues southeast where it terminates at Rinawade 110kV substation in Rinawade Lower (County Kildare). The OHL has a total of 249no. supporting structures. Within the functional area of Kildare County Council, there is 30.66 km of the existing OHL circuit, with 140 no. structures. Within the functional area of Meath County Council there is 23.16 km, with 107 no. structures, and within the functional area of Offaly County Council there is 0.42 km, with 2 no. structures. Separate planning applications will be lodged with Meath County Council and Offaly County Council. The proposed development within Co. Kildare will comprise: the replacement (“restringing”) of the existing OHL circuit conductor wires with a new higher capacity conductor between structure numbers 93 - 153, 224 - 226, and 240 - 247; the strengthening of tower foundations at 9no. locations; the strengthening of towers (i.e., member replacement) at 14no. locations; the painting of towers at 15no. locations; shear block remedial works of towers at 1no. location; the replacement of polesets at 43no. locations, with similar structures. There will be no change in height at 6no. poleset replacements. There will be height increases between 0.1m and 2.0m at 33no. poleset replacements. Situated on a low circular, grass-covered mound (diam. 3.5m; H 0.3m) in gently undulating pastureland. A roughly dressed, almost square limestone block with chamfered edges (dims. L 0.63m; Wth 0.60m; H 0.37m) supports a hexagonal shaft-fragment (H 0.5m), and is said to mark the site of a former burial ground (KD003-016002-). According to O'Leary (1903-05, 172-75) large quantities of human bones were uncovered here in the mid-19 c. He identifies this site and a cross base and shaft (KD003-016001-) as being connected with the reburial of interments from Clonagh church and graveyard (KD003-020001-). According to O'Leary (1896-99, 135-38) a date stone (KD003-017001-) attests that a castle was built by John Lye in 1578. O'Leary also notes the presence of a 'religious house' (KD003-020----), 'burial place' (KD003-020001-) and stone cross (KD003-02002--) in this area and quotes from a 1608 Inquisition held at Naas that, '… John Lye of Rathbride, gent., being seized of divers lands in the said townland of Clonaugh, levelled the tenements, bounds, and limits of said religious house, threw down and destroyed the cross and trees and erected a tower, or small castle, with other buildings.' Also, according to O'Leary (1904, 172-3) stones from the demolished Clonagh Castle were used to build 'Kilshanchoe Church' (KD003-027----). On a very slight rise c. 50m to the W of a small N-flowing stream in open pastureland. In 1985 there were no visible surface traces of the monument (SMR file). Two armorial plaques (KD004-002----) incorporated into the walls of a primary school in Johnstown village and an architectural fragment (KD004-003----) incorporated into a modern wall in the village are said to have come from the castle.
