This is the site of the medieval parish church of Carrigallen, and it might have continued in use until the present Church of Ireland church was built in 1814 (Lewis 1837, vol. 1, 279) in the same graveyard. The foundations of the E wall (L 7.2m; H 0.8m) are visible under a cairn (dims 15.5m N-S; 5.7m E-W) within the graveyard. Archaeological testing (05E0828) just across the road from the entrance to the graveyard produced no related material (Henry 2008). The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Situated on rock outcrop within the village of Carrigallen. The remains of the medieval parish church is in the SW corner of the large graveyard (dims c. 90m NNW-SSE; c. 55m NE-SW) defined by masonry walls attached to the present Church of Ireland church, but any burials that might be associated with the medieval remains are probably in its immediate vicinity. Archaeological testing (05E0828) just across the road from the entrance to the graveyard produced no related material (Henry 2008). A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner.
