Situated on a gentle rise on the floor of the NE-SW Bonet River valley, with a N-S section of the stream c. 130m to the W. Clonlogher may have been an ancient church site as the Erenagh lands were granted to the bishop of Kilmore in 1663 (Lewis 1837, 1, 366) and the parish is divided between the Church and Sir George Villiers of Dromahaire castle (LE014-008001-), according to the Down Survey (1656-8) barony map, for which see this web-page accessed on 20/04/2016 http://downsurvey.tcd.ie/down-survey-maps.php#bm=Drumaheir&c=Leitrim&p=Clooneclare+and+Clonlogher The parish church of Cloonlogher is within a rectangular graveyard (dims 58m NE-SW; 38m NW-SE) defined by masonry walls. The church, which could be as late as the 17th century, is a rectangular structure (int. dims 14.4m ENE-WSW; 5.9m NNW-SSE) built of randomly coursed masonry walls (Wth 0.7m; H c. 4m) with dressed quoins, and it survives almost complete. There is a destroyed doorway towards the W end of the S wall and a large rectangular window opening in the E gable, with smaller windows in the N and S walls. There are two single square-headed opes in the W gable. Davies (ITA 1942) recorded fragments of a window jamb, but they are no longer in the graveyard. See the attached view of the church taken from the S. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
