Located towards the top of a low rise. This was described in 1991 (SMR file) as a scrub-covered circular area (diam. 36m) defined by a band of lush reed and rush growth (Wth 2-6m), but the original entrance was not recognised. The overgrowth had been removed by 2000 (OSAP), and it can be seen as a circular area (int. diam. c. 25m) defined by a wide fosse (Wth c. 4-8m) on some later series (OSAP: 2012; Google Earth 01/03/2010; 16/06/2014; 24/03/2017). The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Located on the S-facing slope of a rise c. 250m from the NW bank of a SW-NE section of the River Shannon. It is depicted only on the 1945 revision of the OS 6-inch map as a D-shaped hachured feature. This is a grass-covered D-shaped area (dims 72m N-S; 65m E-W) defined by a low scarp (H 0.2-0.4m), which is truncated by an E-W field bank at N. Neither a fosse nor an entrance is identified. There is a NW-SE field bank towards the perimeter at E. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revised upload: 17 October 2019 Works at or in relation to a recorded monument need two months' written notice to the National Monuments Service (National Monuments (Amendment) Act 1994, section 12). ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage) No building of the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage stands in the townland of Gort. ## Ground and risks (Radon Risk Map of Ireland, EPA; Landslide Susceptibility Classification and LiDAR, Geological Survey Ireland) - Radon: at the centre of the townland of Gort, about 1 in 10 homes in this area is likely to have high radon levels. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
