Located in pasture on the floor of a N-S valley, at the bottom of the W-facing slope. It is depicted on the 1835 and the revised 1944 editions of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as ‘St. Everan’s Well’. John O’Donovan, writing in the 1830s, thought that this name was a corruption of Mauranus, whom St. Patrick placed over the church of Domhnach Mór, which he built somewhere in Magh Sleacht, after his encounter with the pagan idol known as Crom Cruach (Herity 2012, 398). This well is now known locally as St Caillin's Well (Blaney 1944, 134) and it is situated c. 650m N of Fenagh church (LE025-096001-). This is a small well with a rectangular concrete surround (dims. 0.9m x 0.95m; H 0.85m). There is no record of veneration or of a pattern, although it is well known as a holy well. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of revised upload: 8 February 2017 - LE025-119: Ring-ditch, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CLE025-119----. Located on a S and W-facing slope with a ravine (Wth c. 50m; D c. 5m) c. 10m to the W separating it from an area with three passage tombs and a portal tomb. Archaeological monitoring (05E1402) revealed an arc (L 10.5m) of a flat-bottomed trench (Wth of top 0.4-0.7m; D 0.25-0.35m) curving SE-SW which contained three layers of silty clay, the bottommost of which contained charcoal inclusions and some struck flints. It was completely excavated (int. diam. 12m E-W; 11m N-S) under the same licence and is probably the remains of a barrow. (Read 2006, 2008; 2009) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 8 December 2020 Works at or in relation to a recorded monument need two months' written notice to the National Monuments Service (National Monuments (Amendment) Act 1994, section 12). ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage) No building of the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage stands in the townland of Mullaghnameely. ## Ground and risks (Radon Risk Map of Ireland, EPA; Landslide Susceptibility Classification and LiDAR, Geological Survey Ireland) - Radon: at the centre of the townland of Mullaghnameely, about 1 in 5 homes in this area is likely to have high radon levels. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner.
