OSi 25-inch map as a raised sub-circular shaped area (dims. c. 20m N-S; 24m E-W) defined by a scarp with a gap at NE. In 1840 the Ordnance Survey recorded this monument as one of 'four forts' in the townland (OSNB Abbeyfeale to Bruree, 191). Monument visible as circular-shaped area enclosed by a bank lined with trees at SE and SW, truncated at NE by a modern house boundary running NW-SE on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages. OSi 6-inch map as a raised circular-shaped area defined by a scarp with a stone wall on top. Shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a raised sub-circular shaped area (dims. c. 66m N-S; 58m E-W) defined by a scarp from NW-N-E-S-SW, truncated at W by a drain running NE-SW, intersected at NE by a pond. In 1840 the Ordnance Survey recorded this monument as one of 'four forts' in the townland (OSNB Abbeyfeale to Bruree, 191). Partially levelled monument visible as sub-circular shaped area defined by a tree-lined fosse from NW-N-E-S-SW on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages. In reclaimed grassland, Ballingarry church and graveyard (LI049-107001-/002-) lie 135m to E. In 1840 the Ordnance Survey recorded this monument as a flat moat 23 paces in diameter at the top and about 10ft. [3m] above the level of the field’ (OSL, Vol. 1, 211). Depicted on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a raised oval-shaped platform(dims. c. 25m N-S; 20m E-W) defined by a scarp, with fosse from S-W-NW. Recorded by Leask in 1938 (NMI topographical files) as a ‘flat topped fort 55 ft [16.76m], with site of a house 20’ [6.09m] x 9’ [2.74m]. Fosse toward the S’. Described by Hunt (1951, 73) as a ‘raised platform ringfort with fosse and Norman house site on top’. Excavated by Hunt in 1949, who summarised his results as following; ‘This year’s work gave additional confirmation that the structure was not, as its shape suggested, a Norman erection. Evidence of a number of superimposed buildings was found, and the several phases of the growth of the Down from a simple ringfort with low bank to its present Motte-like form, were traced. Section of the ground plans of several houses were revealed pointing to an intensive habitation from Early Christian times, and the former existence of a second and outer fosse was shown. A noteworthy feature of the excavation was the remarkable state of preservation of much of the organic material found' (Hunt 1951, 71-6). Westropp (1904-5, 452-3) recorded the following details about Ballingarry Church also known as Garth; 'Garthegrifnn, in Natherlach, 1291; Garthe, in Natherlagh, 1302. Alicia, widow of Griffin de Rupe, had a suit about lands, a mill, turbary, and pasture in Garthegriffin and Olethere, Kilboygnam, and O'Tran; elsewhere given as Garthegriffen, in Olehere; Foxnoceston, in Any; and Olethill, in Kilboynagh, 1294-7 (Plea R. 22 of xxv Ed. I, m. 48; 32, m. 7,and 36 of xxvi, m. 20). Ballingarrie Church, 1607 (Pat. R.). "There is noe habitacon or other thing remarkable in this parish, save only a mill seate and the walls of a church upon the lands of Ballingarry," 1656 (D.S. (A), 53). Single-arch sandstone and limestone road bridge, built c. 1810, with vermiculated limestone voussoirs over round-headed arches. Random rubble walls with roughly cut sandstone copings.

Detached four-bay two-storey former house, built c. 1820. Comprising render shopfront to front (east) elevation and single-bay single-storey extension to south elevation. Now in use as a public house. Pitched artificial slate roof with brick chimneystacks. Painted lined-and-ruled rendered walls. Square-headed openings having one-over-one timber sliding sash windows, moulded render surrounds and concrete sills. Those to ground floor having cast-iron sill guards. Shopfront comprising strip pilasters with moulded consoles, fascia and cornice. Square-headed display windows flanking square-headed opening having timber battened door.

Freestanding T-plan gable-fronted Roman Catholic church, built 1819. Comprising two-bay nave with single-bay transepts to east and west elevations having external staircases and single-bay single-storey sacristy to rear (south) elevation. Pitched slate roofs with terracotta ridge tiles, render eaves course, cast-iron rainwater goods and open work limestone bellcote to front (north) elevation. Roughcast rendered walls with render plinth course and inscribed limestone plaque to front. Pointed arch opening to front having chamfered surround and stained glass window. Pointed arch openings to nave having Y-tracery six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows and limestone sills. Pointed arch openings to rear having one-over-one pane timber sliding sash stained glass windows. Square-headed openings to rear and sacristy having four-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Pointed arch opening to front with chamfered surround and double-leaf timber battened door having cast-iron strap hinges. Flight of limestone steps to entrance. Pointed arch openings to transept gables having Y-tracery glazed overlights over timber battened doors. Pointed arch openings to transepts with timber battened doors. Altar wall to interior having Corinthian style columns with flanking pilasters supporting entablature and cornice. Marble memorial to west wall. Timber battened gallery having octagonal timber columns to entrance end. Random rubble sandstone boundary walls with render copings. Pair of square-profile rendered piers with double-leaf metal gates.
