Rounds are still made: the water cures sore eyes. A pattern was held on 25th March, but is long discontinued. Rags, were hung on the whitethorn as offerings'. The parish of Anedes was fined £4 10s. for the escape of a criminal from its church, 1274-1277 (Pipe Roll, Ireland). Athnadessce, 1302, John Staloun robbed Aghnedes Church, 1318 (Plea R. 123 of xi Ed. II,m. 34). In 1343 Eliza de Milton, as widow of Walter de Bermingham, claimed one-third of the "Baronies" of Kathirlagh, Athnedes, Lekdon, and Kilkede (Close R.). Philip Carran, chaplain, presented by Henry IV. to "Andes in Lym.," 1405 (Pat. R.), Ric. Rolley (Raleigh), and others named as holding the manor and advowson of Andesshe, 1424 (ib.). Benefices reserved to John Harchor, rector of Athnedisse (Cal. Papal L., iv., p. 458). In 1408 Tho. f. Gerot was custodian of Manor and advowson of Andesche (Pat. R.). The prebendal church of St. Mary of Andesche is on the frontier of the marches of Limerick; 'John Archer, the prebend, derived no benefit, through resistance of the Irish." The church was destroyed, and ordered to be made a prebend during life of "Richard" Archer, the incumbent, 1409 (Pat. R.); Athenease, or Beallathenesigh, or Beallaneasy, dedicated to St. Athanasius, May 2, 1410; Athenasse, 1418; Attinesie, 1615; Athenesy, 1657 (D.S.(A), 56). Site - A graveyard, near Elton bridge, with two earthen forts (LI040-105----/102-) to the north, and "Lady's "Well," (LI040-103----) quarter of a mile away (O.S.L., 8, p. 267). The remains of the old church of Athanessy stood in 1826' (Fitzgerald, i., p. 318). Athneasy Fort located 50m N of Athneasy church (LI040-0104001-) and graveyard (LI040-0104002-) described in 1840 as following; 'To the north west of the burying ground and very close to it stands a moat or dun, which is called Dún Bhéal Atha na nDeisig (nDeiseach). A trench ran round the base of the dún, which was twenty one feet [6.4m] broad therefrom to the fosse (by fosse is meant here the circular rampart or earthen mound that ran round the trench at the base of the moat) that enclosed it. The fosse has been entirely destroyed. It enclosed the trench on the east, south and west by north sides and on the north east side a square flat which measures thirty eight yards = one hundred and fourteen feet [34.7m] from north west to south east and seventy two feet [22m] from north east to south west. The circumference around the base of this dun is one hundred and twenty eight paces — three hundred and eighty four feet [117m]. It measures twenty six feet [7.9m] on the east side in the ascent from the base to the summit. It is twenty five paces = seventy five feet [22.8m] in diameter at top' (OSL Athneasy Parish). Faint trace of possible ditch-barrow or ring-ditch visible as a circular cropmark on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13. No surface remains visible on Google Earth orthoimages. Elliptical-headed door opening with moulded render surround incorporating render pilaster and render keystone. Replacement timber panelled door with recent sidelights and overlight. Square-headed door openings to rear with timber battened doors.
