In pasture 150m N of the Main Street in Patrickswell, that marks the townland boundary with Attyflin. Depicted on the 1840 OS 6-inch map as a circular-shaped area defined by a bank, with the interior planted with trees. The 1897 OS 25-inch map depicts the monument as a raised roughly circular-shaped area (approx. int. diam. 28m, approx. ext. diam. 45m) enclosed by a bank from S through W to N and a field boundary from N through W to S. An external fosse is depicted from the SW through W to N and intersects a field boundary in S. Ó Danachair (1955, 213) recorded the following details about this holy well; ‘St Patrick's Well on 1840 map. This is the well which gives its name to Patrickswell village. The well was open formerly, with a great elm tree standing beside it. Formerly much visited, especially on 17th March. The water cured sores, toothache and other pains, also cattle. It was sprinkled on crops and churns. Rags, medals and drinking cups hung on the tree. Devotions ceased about 1890. About this time a pump was erected over the well; this has now been removed. A slab in the wall beside the well has a rough figure of St Patrick and is inscribed "Erected by Thos McNamara and S Breay". It seems to date from about the beginning of the 19th century. Lewis, Topographical Dictionary, ii, 459 "says it has recently been placed" there'. The following folklore was recorded from Lurga National School about Tobar Pádraig; 'Long ago in Patrickswell, there was a Blessed well, which St. Patrick was supposed to have blessed. It is now a pump' (The Schools’ Collection, Volume 0526, Page 165; accessible online at www.duchas.ie/en/cbes/4922107/4852736/4949342). Rendered walls and render plinth course. Square-headed openings having one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows and limestone sills. Round-headed opening to west elevation, first floor with one-over-one pane timber sliding sash window and limestone sill. Square-headed opening with glazed overlight over half-glazed timber panelled door. Flight of limestone steps to entrance. Round-headed opening to south elevation having glazed overlight over half-glazed timber panelled door with limestone steps to entrance. Outbuilding having single-bay single-storey lean-to to north elevation. Hipped slate roof and timber bargeboard to gablet. Painted roughly dressed limestone walls. Square-headed window openings with timber fittings and limestone sills. Square-headed openings with timber battened doors. Elliptical-headed carriage arch having painted brick voussoirs and double-leaf timber battened doors. Detached three-bay single-storey former dispensary to east having hipped slate roof, timber bargeboards and rendered chimneystack. Rendered walls. Square-headed window and door openings, now blocked up. Rubble limestone walls to dispensary with limestone cappings and single-leaf cast-iron gate. Pair of square-profile tooled limestone piers to east having carved limestone caps and double-leaf cast-iron gates. Rendered boundary walls with single-leaf pedestrian cast-iron gate.
