In pasture on a very slight S-facing slope, 62m E of townland boundary with Ballybronoge South, enclosure (LI021-189----) lies 90m to NE. No surface remains visible. Depicted on the 1840 OS 6-inch map as a circular shaped area (approx. diam. 45m) enclosed by a bank. Not marked on 1897 OS 25-inch map, likely that monument was levelled between these map dates. On the S side of a former river channel, in poorly drained pasture, 37m E of the townland boundary with Ballyloughnaan and 70m to N of a stream marking the townland boundary with Monearla. Not depicted on OS historic mapping. Monument identified as a fulacht fiadh (Site A) during monitoring of topsoil stripping along the route of the N20/N21 Adare to Annacotty road scheme (Deevy 2001, 1). Monument excavated by Mary Deevy in 1999 and described as one of a pair of fulacht fiadh (Sites A and B) which were situated on either side of a dried-up river channel running E-W, possibly a tributary of the River Maigue (ibid). The fulacht fiadh at Site A was a roughly circular-shaped spread (diam. 7.5m; D 0.15m) of burnt material (Deevey 2001, 1). A cut feature uncovered beneath the spread may originally have been a trough, however, this had been badly truncated across the N side and it was not possible to determine its exact function (ibid, 2). This side of the burnt spread had also been disturbed and displaced, probably by water action during the rising and falling of the adjacent river. No additional pits, which could have served as a definite troughs, survived. No other artefacts or animal bone were recovered from this fulachta fiadh. The fulacht fiadh at Site B was a roughly circular-shaped mound (max. diam. 12m; D 0.73m) which had been very disturbed by water action on the S and SW sides where it had been exposed to fluctuating river levels (Deevy 2001, 4). A number of distinct phases of activity were identified on this site. The earliest were a number of subsoil-cut features, some of which may have been natural, while others were stake-holes in a linear arrangement aligned E-W at the N end of the site. These features were separated from the fulacht fiadh activity by a layer of peat and in some places by a layer of finely crushed shells. A second phase of activity is represented by a deep, rectangular-shaped pit (2.7m x 0.8m; min. D 1m) which had been dug through the peat and the underlying subsoil (Deevy 2001, 5). The fill was a mixture of redeposited subsoil and peat, indicating that it had probably been backfilled shortly after it had been dug, during which time a small, polished stone axehead was deliberately placed within the fill (ibid). A subrectangular-shaped stone well (1.8m x 1.2) had been cut through the fulacht fiadh mound, which appears to be on a natural spring (Deevy 2001, 8). It was of drystone construction, composed of large, rectangular-shaped blocks of limestone. This stone structure was surrounded on all sides by rounded cobblestones, which filled the cut excavated through the fulacht fiadh mound for the well (ibid). The spring flowed very strongly, filling the well and flowing out of a specially constructed stone drain towards the low ground between the two fulachta fiadh (Sites A and B). No other artefacts or animal bone were recovered from this fulachta fiadh. No additional pits, which could have served as troughs, survived. It is possible that the trough had occupied the position of the natural spring and was destroyed during the insertion of the stone well, for which a large cut was excavated into the mound. Situated in the SE corner of a pasture field, to the immediate W of a townland boundary with Gorteen and c. 15m to N of a stream. A moated site (LI021-017----) including a second corn-drying kiln lies c. 40m to E and a third corn-drying kiln (LI021-180----) lies c. 70m to NE. Not depicted on OS historic mapping. Monument identified as a corn-drying kiln during monitoring (License No. 08E0174) of topsoil stripping along the route of a Limerick County Council water mains upgrade running from Adare to Patrickswell (McKinstry 2011, 4). Monument excavated under the same license in 1999 and described as a keyhole-shaped kiln (L 7.1m NE-SW; min. Wth 0.8m-2.6m NW-SE; max. D 0.7m) consisting of a bowl at the NE end, a hearth at the SW end and a narrow flue linking the two components (ibid, 11). The sides of the kiln were stone-lined and its four fills contained shell fragments, charcoal, gravel and stone. Post-excavation analysis identified oat and hulled barley from one of the fills (ibid, 13). A radiocarbon date (cal. AD 1215-1285) of the fill dates the kiln to the medieval period (ibid). A second kiln was located on the opposite side of the field boundary to E, just outside the ditch of a moated site (LI021-017----) and has been recorded along with that monument. A metalled surface (7m x 3m; T 0.01-0.05m) of small stones and pebbles was located to the N of the kilns (ibid, 11). Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c. 1850, having projecting gable-fronted centre-bay to front (south) elevation, return to rear (north) elevation with single-bay extension to first floor, east elevation, lean-to to east and west elevations. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and timber bargeboards. Roughcast rendered walls with external light fitting to rear elevation. Square-headed openings having two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows and painted stone sills. Square-headed openings to extension with fixed windows. Square-headed opening to centre-bay, west elevation with three-pane overlight over timber panelled door. Square-headed opening to return, east elevation having timber pilasters with scrolled consoles and seven-pane overlight over double-leaf timber panelled doors. Eight-bay single-storey outbuilding to east with pitched slate roof. Roughcast rendered walls. Arrow slit windows having painted brick surrounds. Square-headed openings with painted brick voussoirs and timber battened doors.
