The monument, depicted on the 1841 OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) has been partially levelled and is now evident as a sub-oval area (31m N-S; 21m E-W) defined by a scarped edge (H 0.8m; Wth 6.2m). The interior slopes gently to the E. Situated at the base of a SE-facing slope in poorly drained pasture. Overlooked by Knockea Hill to NE, by a hill in Ballynagarde townland to SE and with good views to S. Upright irregular-shaped limestone (H 0.8m; Wth. 0.4-0.6m) in a gentle depression defined by a scarp edge (D 0.2m; Wth. 0.8m). Situated on a S-facing slope in rolling pasture on the site of a levelled rath (LI013-109----) and visible intermittently as an E-W orientated bank (L 76.9m; Wth. 1m, H 0.15-0.2m) stretching across the field to an area of marsh. On the site of the rath the W end of the bank is visible as a rectangular concentration of stones (Wth. c. 1m; L 11m) with kerbing to the S. Identified from an aerial photograph (Bruff Survey: Map 22, Bruff 51) and described by Doody (2008, 130) as an 'oval ditched enclosure, 75m x 60m NE-SW, with possibe internal bank. Possible second ditch; interior appears to be raised'; the morphology of this enclosure indicates that it may be Bronze Age in date (ibid.). In pasture at base of ridge running NE-SW, immediately N of stream and 217m E of Ahanload River that marks townland boundary with Fanningstown. Standing stone (LI022-227----) 145m to E, enclosure (LI022-188----) 150m to N, enclosure and field system (LI022-046----/-228) 200m to NW and field system (LI022-239----) 207 to SW. Depicted as a circular shaped enclosure on the 1840 OS 6-inch map. Shown on the 1897 OS 25-inch map as s semi-circular shape area intersected at S by a post-1700 drainage channel running roughly NE-SW. Poorly preserved and modified enclosure consisting of a sub-circular area (30m N-S x 22m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved bank mainly reduced to a scarp (H 0.5m) visible from SW through N to SE and fosse (int. D 1.4m; ext. D 1.6m; Base Wth 1.4m; overall Wth 7.45m) with possible external bank. Interior slopes to N. Site description in 2000 records a raised area at S may be spoil heap from modern excavation of pond (6m N-S; 10m E-W) located S of field boundary. A field boundary running E-W truncates the site at SE. Monument is visible as rectangular shaped area with trees at W and E, intersected by field boundary at S and linear field system radiates N from NE corner. The monument is visible as part of larger complex of field systems and enclosures to N and S on the OSi 2005-2012 orthophotos. Present remains consist of a raised oval shaped area (dims. 52m N-S) defined by scarp with external fosse (int. D 0.45m; ext. D 0.5m; base Wth 2.7m; top Wth 6.1m) deepest from SW to W. Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c. 1840, having recent porch extension to front (west) elevation and return to rear (east) elevation. Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with smooth render plinth. Square-headed openings with replacement uPVC windows and tooled limestone sills. Round-headed door opening with timber panelled door flanked by side lights and having spoked fanlight above. Outbuildings to rear comprising single-storey multiple-bay ranges arranged around yard. Pitched slate roofs, rubble limestone walls, some whitewashed. Segmental-arched openings to outbuildings with red brick voussoirs.
