Only the W bell-tower of the medieval church remains upstanding with bell-tower of post-1700 C of I church standing immediately to N both of which are located in the N quadrant of a large graveyard (LI013-062002-). Putlog holes are the only architectural feature visible in the external face of the N, S and W walls. Westropp (1904-5, 372-3) records the following details about Cahernarry ; 'A parish in Clanwilliam. Keyrnedyn, alias Carnarthy, named in charter of King John, 1207 (B.B.L., p. 89). Carnarthy was restored to Bishop Bobert, by Athassell, 1253 (B.B.L., p. 101); Karnathie, 1302. Lawsuit as to Roger Bagod's right of presentation to Carnarthy, 1320; and as to the charter of John and Richard Moyne (Plea R. 131 of xiv Ed. II, m. 7; and 141 of xvi Ed. II.); Cahiornairy dedicated to St. Nicholas, 1410; Carnarey, 1418 ; Cathairnaraidhe, "Fort of Naraidhe" (O'Donovan). Fabric - A portion of the belfry, 16 feet [4.87m] high, 6½ feet [1.9m] north and south, remained, 1840, with a well named Tobersenan. The modern I. C. church was built 1810; near it is the large vault of the Howleys'.
