Westropp (1904-5, 441) gives the following details on Carrigparson Church; ‘Carrigparson, or Willestown (14). - A parish. It is a reputed Dominican or Franciscan House; "William's Chapel," with Karkynglisse, in Wethney, 1302; Willestowne, in Emly, 1591 (Valor); Carrigparson, or Willestown, Dec. de Carkinlis, 1615. Its grants are almost inseparable from Ballynambraher, q. v. (infra, 329). Towrani, or Tooreen, in this parish, with a fishery on the Cammoge, belonged to the Franciscans of Ballynabrahur, 1586 (Peyton, p. 255). Fabric - Only 6 feet [1.8m] of the north wall stood in 1840; the foundations were 35 feet [10.6m] by 21 feet [6.4m]. In 1655 it had a detached tower and spire'. Situated on a NE-facing slope overlooking a valley in rolling pasture with good views in all directions. Indicated on the 1923 OS 6-inch map as a sub-rectangular area (c. 40m NW-SE; 30m NE-SW) accessed by a track. Enclosed by a mortared stone wall (H 1.5m), ivy-covered on the inside. A concrete path runs just inside the enclosing wall. The graveyard is still in use. The ruins of a church (LI014-023001-) stand in the NE corner. The interior of the site is strewn with rubble and stones. There are several collapsed graves with upright and recumbent 19th century slabs. On the road verge S of the R503 at the intersection of the R503 and a local public road. Annotated 'Liberty Stone' on the 1840 OS 6-inch map where it is depicted standing on the line of the ‘Parliamentary Boundary’ of Limerick City. This stone marked the boundary between the jurisdiction of the Mayor of Limerick City and the rest of the county which was outside his governance. The stone is not indicated at this location on the 1897 OS 25-inch map. The stone is visible on Google Earth imagery taken 28/06/2018. The stone was described in 1913 as following; ‘The Carrigparson stone measures 2 feet 2 inches [0.66m] by three feet three inches [1m], and the inscription is in contracted Roman capitals: as The Liberties of the City of Limerick ascertained 1786, Sir Christopher Knight, Mayor’ (Barry 1913, 238). Lined-and-ruled rendered walls having render plinth course and dentillated cornice to porch. Square-headed openings having two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows and limestone sills. Round-headed openings to porch with render hoodmouldings, one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows and limestone sills.
