Enclosure described in 1943 as following; 'This monument consists of a circular mound with a slightly hollow centre. It is probable that this platform had a bank around its edge. There is no fosse and the entrance is not recognisable. The greatest height of the mound is 5' [1.5m] and its overall diameter is 100' [30m]. It is situated in good low-land. A modern fence has cut into it on the south-west side' (O'Kelly 1942-3, 179). The outline of the monument is visible today on Digital Globe aerial photographs. Enclosure and ring-barrows (LI032-149002-/003-/004-) described in 1942-3 as following; 'This is a circular earthen platform surrounded by two banks and two fosses. The entrance is not recognisable. The maximum height of the platform over the fosse-bottom is 5' [1.5m] and the overall diameter is 306' [93m]. A fence and drainage trench have cut through the west side of the defences and another trench has cut through them on the south. Situated in wet low-land. In the field immediately to the N.E. of this there were at least three ring-barrows, one of which now remains. This consists of a very slight mound surrounded by a fosse. The overall diameter is 18' [6m]. The field is a meadow and the other barrows were levelled to facilitate the operation of machinery therein. Nothing was found when they were cleared away' (O'Kelly 1942-3, 237). Upstanding monument clearly visible on oblique aerial photograph taken 20/07/1968 (CUCAP AVT024). Enclosure described in 1942-3 as following; 'This monument consists of a low platform around which there is a fosse, an outer bank and an outer fosse. The entrance is on the north-east side, where there is a gap about 10' [3m] wide in the bank and the fosses are causewayed. The platform is 6' [1.8m] high over the fosse-bottom and the overall diameter is 295' [90m]. The outer fosse and bank have been cut away on the north and east sides in the making of fences' (O'Kelly 1942-3, 237). Possible moated site described in 1942-3 as following; 'This seems to have been a rectangular stone fort. The bank is now very collapsed, but what remains is for the most part stone, though no facings are visible. The entrance is not recognisable. The rectangle measures 120' [36m] east-west by 90' [27m]. The maximum height of the bank is 2' 6" [0.76m]. It is situated on the N.E. slope of a limestone hill. It is called Barnanenagh Fort on the map' (O'Kelly 1942-3, 237). Outline of poorly preserved earthwork visible today on Digital Globe aerial photographs. It has been suggested that this earthwork located E of 'Knockmuinaha' as depicted on the 25-inch OS map may be the site of 'Knockmonihy Castle' (LI032-148----) (pers. comm. Bosco Ryan). Standing stone described in 1942-3 as following; 'This is a fine limestone pillar, triangular in shape. The faces show white streaks of quartzite. It is 8' [2.4m] high and at the base measures 2' 10" [0.86m] wide by 6" [0.15m] thick. It stands to the north-east of Barnanenagh Fort [I032-151----] and in the same field' (O'Kelly 1942-3, 237). Holed stone described in 1942-3 as following; 'This is a flag of limestone well weathered and worn. It looks ancient. It is 5' [1.5m] high and at the base measures 1' 3" [0.38m] wide by 6" [0.15m] thick, but for the greater part of its height it is 3½" [0.09m] to 4" [0.1m] thick. At a distance of 9" [0.23m] from the centre point of the top edge of the stone a small hole is bored right through. The section of the boring is conical and measures 2" [0.05m] in diameter on the south west face and 1" [0.02m] on the north-east. Locally it is believed to be ancient.
