In pasture, on slight rise in general E-facing slope. Roughly circular area (33m E-W) defined by scarped edge (H 1.8m; Wth 6.4m); scarp most pronounced on E side due to fall of terrain. No visible surface trace of medieval borough (Bradley et al. 1989, 96-7), known as Corkmoy or Corkemoyth, located somewhere in vicinity of hall house (LI038-106004-), motte (LI038-106005-), and church (LI038-106003-). Settlement probably began after market grant of 1284, but nothing is known of its history after mid-14th century (ibid.). Described in the Urban Survey of Limerick (Bradley et. al. 1989, 96-7) as following; 'Castletown Conyers is located in south Limerick midway between Newcastle West and Kilmallock. This now deserted borough was known in the Middle Ages as "Corkmoy" or "Corkemoyth" but after its purchase by Captain Conyers in 1703 it has been called after that family (Westropp 1906-7, 229; 1904-5, 416-7). The manor seems to have been in the hands of the Fitzmaurices from an early stage in the Anglo-Norman conquest. In 1276 the manor was granted by Maurice FitzMaurice to his son-in-law, Thomas de Clare who brought new energy into the Anglo-Norman settlement of Limerick and Clare (Westropp, ibid.). In 1284 he was granted the right to hold a weekly market at his manor of "Corkmoy" and this presumably marks the beginnings of the borough settlement also (Sweetman 1875-86, ii, no. 2283). In the inquisition taken after the death of the last of the de Clare’s in 1321 it was stated that the burgesses of Corkmoid paid £4 2s annually in rents (Cal. Inquis. post mortem vi,160). Subsequently the manor passed to the Clifford family who held it during the middle of the fourteenth century (Westropp 1904-5, 416). After that date, however, nothing is known of the history of the borough. It is likely that the medieval borough was centred on the castle (LI038-106004-) and church (LI038-106003-) but no features survive above ground'. On E side of avenue, within precinct of medieval borough (LI038-106001-). Trapezoidal graveyard (c. 70m E-W; c. 60m N-S) enclosed by stone wall; gate and style at W end of N wall. In use and maintained; full of headstones the earliest noted dating to 1790s, no chest tombs but burial vaults of Conyers family inside W end of ruined medieval parish church (LI038-106003-) which stands near N end of graveyard. Excavation by (McCutcheon 2003, 308) found remains here of 18th century activity. The summary excavation results were described as following; 'One feature, a shallow pit (10.5m by 6.3m maximum) with associated gullies, stake-holes and stone flags, was possibly a kiln or furnace. The basal fill was a carbonised silt, and the underlying boulder clay indicated in situ burning. The stake-holes might represent, if not a superstructure or roof, then perhaps a wind block. Unworked medium to large stones in the overburden may have been the remains of a drystone lining. A series of stone settings on the western side of the site may be parts of a cobbled path leading through the field to the church. A low arcing ridge which enclosed the existing graveyard proved to be a man-made bank. Evidence from beneath the bank dated it to the 18th century at the earliest. The first-edition OS map shows an angular northern boundary to the graveyard. The existing graveyard boundary wall was newly built at the beginning of the 20th century' (www.excavations.ie). Near N end of graveyard (LI038-106002-). Roofless ivy-clad ruin of exceptionally long rectangular church (9.8m N-S; 38.5m E-W) built of roughly coursed sandstone; formerly parish church of Corcomohide (Westropp 1904-5, 416-7; Bradley et al. 1989, vol. 1, 99-100 & fig. 17). West end of church (L c. 9m) occupied by 18th/19th century burial vaults of Conyers family, now much ruined. Entrance doorway in S wall of church, just E of area occupied by Conyers' vaults, is completely ruined but lying on ground beside it are two limestone arch-stones from door surround. There is another ruined doorway near E end of N wall which gave entry to sacristy. Short section of E wall (L 0.4m) is only part of sacristy now standing; this a continuation of E wall of church, showing both are of same build; sod-covered foundations (Wth c. 0.8m) continue a further 2m before returning to W for a further c. 2.7m. Two wall presses on outer face of N wall of church, were part of sacristy. Only N inside edge of original window in E wall survives; in its place is a simple slit window and a second window with a double light. There is similar window near E end of S wall, with a double-ogee headed light, with recessed spandrels. This is flanked by two much-ruined arched recesses; that to W is piscina as part f bowl with drainage hole survives. Curious feature of church are opposite rectangular thickening of side walls, 9.3m from E wall; these are interpreted by Bradley et al. (ibid.) as part of a collapsed chancel arch. Core of church probably 13th century, with windows and S door inserter in 15th/16th century. In grounds of country house, between holy well (LI038-106006-) and motte (LI038-106005-); within or near site of medieval borough (LI038-106001-). Fragmentary ivy-clad remains of rectangular hall (18.75m E-W; 14.8m N-S), with rectangular off-centre projection added to E (6.2m N-S; 8m E-W) and W (6.9m N-S; 8.1m E-W) ends. Main block built of roughly coursed sandstone blocks, with a low shallow batter; quoins robbed from each corner. Doorway in centre of E wall has 19th-century gate piers in place of door but draw-bar socket survives; interior has inserted partition wall when converted to use as a farm building in 19th century. On N side of doorway base of spiral stairs survives. Interior lit by five narrow slit windows: three in N wall, and one each in W and S walls; no light survives but embrasures covered by plank-centred rounded vaults with lintels towards outer edge. Addition at E end now has farm trackway running through it so that E wall stands in isolation. It had doorway in S wall as draw-bar socket survives; single slit window in E wall much ruined but similar to those in main block. Addition at W end only part of structure to stand to first-floor level but is very ruined and choked with collapsed masonry; appears to have had vault over ground floor, and slit window in N wall at first-floor level. Probably remains of rectangular 13th century hall house, with entrance porch added at E end, and a possible service tower added at w end. Earliest references to castle here are 14th century (Westropp 1906-7, 229); in 1610 described as the 'old castle' of Castletown (ibid.). Described in the Urban Survey of Limerick (Bradley et. al. 1989, 99) as following; 'Lewis (1837, i, 309) seems to be the source of the statement that a castle was built here by MacEneiry in 1349 but, since he quotes no source, this is by no means clear. It is to be assumed that the castle is the successor of the motte and it is possible that it may have been built by Thomas de Clare. This large 13th/14th century rectangular keep is very ruined but appears to have consisted of a two storeyed hall oriented east/west with barrel vaulted towers on the east and west sides. The hall is used as a slurry-pit but appears to have had deeply splaying embrasures in the north and south walls with narrow loops. A spiral stairs on the east wall gave access to the first floor. Only the east wall, with short returns of the north and south walls, of the east tower survive c.3.5m high with a blocked deeply splayed loop in the centre of the wall. The west tower is also very ruined but it is clear that the ground floor was covered by barrel vault, much of which has collapsed. It was lit from the west by a narrow loop in a deeply splayed embrasure. The first floor was lit from the north by a splayed single-light window, now blocked. The collapse of the tower has brought much of the west wall of the hall down and the tower is full of collapsed masonry'. Scarped edge more gradual E->SW (H 0.6m; Wth 2m) and denuded in places by cattle accessing interior; widest break at E (Wth 1.2m). From SSE->SSW slight internal lip to scarp (int. Ground immediately surrounding spring is waterlogged and heavily poached by cattle drinking from spring; a recently cut field drain runs c. 1m in front of spring on same axis as field boundary. No indication that well still used for religious purposes. According to Ó Danachair (1955, 205) rounds still mad here in mid-1950s and 'a pattern and fair was held on 11th February until about 1870'; he also notes legends that 'Saint Gobnait lived here', and that 'a white stag is sometimes seen at the well'. Artificial slate lean-to roof to extension. Roughcast rendered walls with render plinth. Rendered walls to porch with rendered cornice. Square-headed intercom insert to front elevation with rendered surround. Square-headed window openings with render sills and raised render reveals throughout, having six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows. Tripartite timber-framed window to ground floor of front (east) elevation having central six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows flanked by two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Timber casement windows to rear elevation of extension and to southern bay of front elevation. Square-headed door openings with glazed timber doors to front elevation. Rendered enclosing walls to rear forming courtyard containing single-storey outbuildings. Timber battened door to southern end of front elevation giving access to rear courtyard.

Pitched artificial slate roof to house, with gabled dormer windows, rendered chimneystack, uPVC clad eaves course and aluminium rainwater goods. Artificial slate lean-to roof to boiler house. Hipped artificial slate roof to later wing. Lined-and-ruled rendered walls to front elevation of house and wing with rendered quoins to house. Lined-and-ruled rendered wall to side (south-west) elevation of wing with rubble stone walling visible. Rendered walls with plinth elsewhere. Fourteen-bay two-storey stable block with central integral carriage arches and exposed crenellated rubble stone enclosing wall linking eastern range to house. Pitched slate roofs with rendered chimneystacks and tooled limestone eaves courses. Rubble stone walls with having dressed stone quoins to porte-cochere piers. Integral elliptical-headed carriage arches having tooled sandstone and limestone voussoirs to north and south ranges. Double-leaf timber battened doors with wrought-iron strap hinges. Square-headed window openings with tooled limestone sills, having six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows and timber louvers.
