Enclosure described in 1943 as following; 'This is an oval earthwork consisting of an open space surrounded by a bank and fosse. The interior is higher than the surrounding field. The bank is of earth and gravel with some stone which is not used as a facing. The entrance seems to have been on the north side. Modern fences have been built against the monument at several points one fence runs right across it. The fence is a townland boundary so that part of the monument is an another townland called Drominycarra. East to west the fort measures 270' [82m] and north to south 198' [60m]. The bank and fosse are densely overgrown. It is situated on rising ground' (O'Kelly 1942-3, 223). The outline of the monument is visible today on Digital Globe aerial photographs. In level pasture on the E bank of a stream that marks the townland boundary with Ballyea and 125m N of fulacht fia (LI022-032002-). Identified by Sarah McCutcheon as Site A during archaeological monitoring (Licence 04E0427) associated with the Fedamore Sewerage Scheme (McCutcheon 2002, 191). The results of her excavation were summarised as follows; ‘The burnt spread at Site A consisted of a compact layer of heat-shattered stone and charcoal within blackened, carbonised clay. It incorporated an area measuring 8m east–west x 5m and had an average depth of 0.15m. An oval, unlined trough, 2.3m north–south x 2m x 0.15m (depth), cut the natural clays on site. A small gully diverted the flow of ground-water from a dip in the boulder clay to the trough. Two isolated pits were also uncovered at either end of the site, to the north and south (www.excavations.ie 2000, Site No. 583). No surface remains visible when visited by the ASI in 2000. In level pasture 10m E of a stream that marks the townland boundary with Ballyea and 125m S of fulacht fia (LI022-032001-). Identified by Sarah McCutcheon as Site B during archaeological monitoring (License 04E0427) associated with the Fedamore Sewerage Scheme (McCutcheon 2002, 191). The results of her excavation were summarised as follows; ‘The burnt spread at Site B was irregular in plan, measuring 9m north-east/south-west x 8m, with an average depth of 0.15m, within the excavated area. The spread extended beyond the limit of excavation to the east and west. The burnt material was, however, tapering out towards the western limit of excavation. A shallow, truncated pit associated with the spread may have originally functioned as a trough. This feature was oval in plan and unlined. It measured 1.3m north–south x 1m x 0.11m (depth). A layer of compact, grey-brown subsoil covered the site. A piece of struck flint was excavated from the subsoil. This layer and the burnt spread were both cut by two modern land drains’(www.excavations.ie 2000, Site No. 583). No surface remains visible when visited by the ASI in 2000.
