In pasture, on terrace in N-facing slope. Area of site covered by dense overgrowth of scrub and tall grasses. Roughly circular area (36m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank. Bank overlain/replaced by field boundary NE->SE and covered by dense overgrowth SE->WSW. Bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.45m) best preserver WSW->NW. From NW->NE bank becomes scarp-like (int. H 0.2; ext. H 1.3m); along here ground falls away from external face of scarp in series of steps. Field boundary which abutted external bank face at NW has been removed. Interior surface noticeably uneven, and slopes down gently to ENE. In E quadrant is irregular-shaped depression (2m N-S; 2.5m E-W; D c. 0.4m). Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

According to Ó Danachair (1955, 215) in this townland was a well named 'Tobar Mhichíl ... now used to supply water to Athea ... an old man, born in 1816, stated that his grandfather used to make rounds at this well' (ibid.). There is no well marked on the OS maps in the location given by Ó Danachair and an extensive search of the area did not reveal an such well nor is there any local knowledge of its existence. Rendered walls throughout with render quoins to front elevation. Square-headed window openings with rendered sills and uPVC casement windows throughout. Square-headed door opening to front elevation, having timber panelled door with brass fittings, surmounted by single-pane overlight. Timber shopfront comprising pilasters surmounted by architrave, frieze with raised lettering and cornice. Square-headed window openings with timber sills over rendered stall risers. Having fixed timber-framed single-pane display windows with carved timber spandrels. Central recessed porch with square-headed door opening having double-leaf glazed timber doors surmounted by bipartite overlight. Round-headed sidelights to porch with tooled limestone step and decorative double-leaf wrought-iron gates. Located at eastern end of Athea overlooking the River Galey.

Square-headed door opening having chamfered reveals to porch, tooled limestone step and timber battened door. Recent render ramp to approach with galvanised-steel railing. Rendered and recent concrete enclosing walls with rendered piers and wrought-iron gate. Located on slope to the southern end of Athea.
