Situated on the summit of Temple Hill with commanding views of SE Limerick, N Cork and much of S Tipperary. Listed as Knocknascrow 5 (Costello 2016, 309). Roughly circular drystone-walled shelter (ext. dims. 2.7m; int. H 1m; ext. H 0.6m; T 0.6m) built into SE side of massive cairn (LI058-001----) which is open to the S , although its E wall extends slightly further S so as to act as a windbreak. Possibly a shelter for shepherds (Costello 2020, 116) or for OS workers when constructing Trig. Station marking OD 2570 ft. on top of cairn on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map. In pasture on slight ESE facing slope. No surface remains visible of semi-circular shaped earthwork depicted on Cassini ed. OSi 6-inch map. A lime-kiln is depicted at this location on 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. The semi-circular shaped earthwork may be the grass-covered remains of the collapsed lime-kiln. Hut-site aligned N-S located at the base of a gentle, SE-facing slope which overlooks a plateau. Appears to be the building that is depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. Listed as Knocknascrow 1 (Costello 2016, 306). Present remains consist of a rectangular-shaped area (ext. dims. 6.7m x 5m; int. dims. 5.4m x 3.7m) enclosed by a coursed earth and stone wall (avg. H 0.6m; avg. T 0.65m) with entrance (Wth 0.8m) at centre of E side. The S end wall (ext. H 1.3m; int. H 1.2m) has been partially reconstructed, probably in recent times to afford some shelter to sheep. The building has no internal features apart from wall tumble. A low bank is visible outside the S end wall and continues eastward for approximately 10m, but does not form an enclosure. This bank was formed by material dug-out to create a building platform, and would have acted as a wind-break (Costello 2016, 89). Rectangular hut-site aligned NW-SE built on a platform cut out from steep facing slope overlooking the Geeragh stream 150m to W which marks townland boundary with Anglesborough. This building is depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map and subsequent OSi maps. Listed as Knocknascrow 2 (Costello 2016, 306-7). Present remains consist of a rectangular-shaped area (ext. dims. 7.66m x 5.1m; int. dims. 6.3m x 3.66) enclosed by a well built coursed earth and stone wall (avg. H 0.5m; avg. T 0.65m) with entrance (Wth 0.8m) in S side wall. The E end wall (ext. H 0.7m) is the best preserved while the N and W side walls (avg. int. H 0.4m, ext. H 0.25m) are lower. The foundation stones of a possible internal wall are visible at the W end of the structure. There is a small and badly ruined annexe at the SE corner of the hut unconnected with the interior of the main structure. It is possible that this was used as a store for dairy produce (Costello 2016, 92). Further downslope, to the S, are two low banks running W in the direction of the Geeragh stream. Starting from a single point, they diverge to form two sides of a triangular piece of land. They may be associated with drainage, although cultivation ridges which might consequently be expected could not be discerned in the vicinity due to heather growth. Rectangular hut-site aligned NW-SE and a roughly rectangular adjoining enclosure (ext. dims. 4.9m x 5.2m; int. dims. 4m x 4.6m), constructed on a platform partly cut out from a steep facing slope on the W side of Pigeon Rock Glen. Pigeonrock River 100m to E which marks townland boundary with Carrigeen Mountain. Listed as Knocknascrow 3 (Costello 2016, 307). Present remains consist of a rectangular-shaped area (ext. dims. 5.2m x 2.6m; int. dims. 4.6m x 2m) enclosed by a well built coursed earth and stone wall (avg. H 0.7m; avg. T 0.6m) with no entrance visible. A low, grass-covered wall of which only the foundation stones survive, runs W from the SW corner of the hut, enclosing the rest of the slope-cut platform. Ten cultivation ridges run downslope from the site, occupying a patch 25m long and 15m wide (Costello 2020, Fig. 5.11). To the W, at a distance of just under 60m, is a man-made dam or bridge on a fast-flowing tributary stream. To the S, on the other side of that stream, is a grassy slope that appears to have been cleared of stones for the purposes of improving the grazing and making the ground safer for cattle (Costello 2016, 93). Rectangular hut-site aligned NE-SW on flat ground immediately S of Pigeonrock River (Coolatiny Stream) which forms townland boundary with Carrigeen Mountain. Listed as Knocknascrow 4 (Costello 2016, 308). Remains consist of a rectangular-shaped area (ext. dims. 7.8m x 4.6m; int. dims. 6.2m x 3m) enclosed by moss-covered earth and stone wall (avg. H 0.4m; avg. T 0.8m) with no entrance visible. A roughly rectangular-shaped annexe (ext. dims. 4.8m x 3.1m) with less substantial walls abut E side, as if sheltering an entrance in that wall (Costello 2016, 92).
