Knocknaghauill, dedicated to St. Brigid, 1410; Cnocknegall (O'Brien, Inquis.), 1584. "The church and trees of Knocknegawell," 1607 (Perambulation, p. 156). Cnocnangall, hill of the foreigners (O'Donovan). It was in repair 1657 (D.S. (A.) 11). Fabric - The church is in Lemonfield; about 10 feet [3m] of the south, and 30 feet [10m] of the north, wall remain. It had a nave and chancel, and seems of late masonry'. Situated on a gentle rise, surrounded partly by mature woodland and overlooking pasture to S. Indicated on the 1924 OS 6-inch map as 'G. Yd.'; a sub-rectangular area (c. 80m N-S; 40m E-W) enclosed by a barb wire fence. The ruins of a church (LI013-080001-), are evident in the N quadrant of the graveyard. A grave has been built into the E wall of the church. The graveyard is still in infrequent use.
