On an elevated area of blanket bog, in the Slievefelim Mountains. Annotated 'Poulastanna' on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map which O'Donovan interpreted as the 'hole or pit of the stan or barrell, known locally as 'The Cask Hole' (OSNB Doon Parish, 604). Described in 1840 as following; 'This hole, which is thought to be a Danish stucture, is about 14 feet [4.26m] deep and 8 feet [2.4m] wide. It is circular, and made of stones. It is on a heathy mountain (ibid.). Depicted on the revised 1903 ed. OS 25-inch map as an oval-shaped feature (approx. dims. 15m N-S x 10m E-W), depicted a depression or hollow in the landscape rather than an extant monument. Visible as an oval-shaped area of differential growth on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-13 and Google Earth orthoimage taken 18/11/2018. May be just a natural or geological feature with no archaeological significance. Alternatively could be the remains of a pond-barrow which became an important landmark in the locality. On the summit of Cullaun, on a slight NW-facing slope, in rough mountain bog, in the Slievefelim Mountains. Annotated 'Mound' and depicted on the OS 25-inch map as a small oval-shaped earthwork standing on the townland boundary with Falleenadatha. The mound may be related to the OS trig station marking spot height of 1524 ft. OD which is immediately W of the mound. Or may be the remains of a boundary cairn constructed by the Ordnance Survey to mark this boundary. Monument surveyed by the ASI in 1999 and described as a circular-shaped flat-topped mound (diam. 8m; H 0.3m) of earth and stone defined by a fosse (basal Wth 1.4m; overall Wth 6.3m; D 0.5m). A narrow routeway (Wth 0.6m) is cut (D 0.15m) from the outer edge of the fosse to the top of the mound at E and appears to be a relatively recent modification. Visible as an oval-shaped area of differential growth on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-13 and Google Earth orthoimage taken 18/11/2018. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
