The placename ‘Lough Ceann (Site of)’ may suggest the presence of a crannóg on a lake which has since been drained. No visible remains of any crannóg at this location. A crannóg in 'Lough Ceann' is referenced in the medieval text Cogadh Gaedhel re Gallaibh (Todd 1867, 141, clx). This crannóg was one of a small number of sites that are specifically named in the text including the 'island of Loch Cend' which was reputedly built by Brian Boru.
