Westropp (1904-5, 429-30) recorded the following details about Uregare; 'A parish in Coshmagh. There were two churches (LI039-046001-) here, so closely connected that we combine their records. Urthegedy, held by Gerald f. Maurice, 1285 (C.S.P.I., vol. iii., p. 285); Euergarr and the chapel of Uirgedi, 1291; Urigari, 1302; suit of the Bagots as to Muchil-wrygedy and Lytel-wrygedy, 1317 (Mem. R., vol. ii., m. 47); Urigear, or Viridus dedicated to St. Margaret, 20th July, 1410; Iwyrgarr and Capella Wrygydy, the rectory belonged to the prioress of Teachmolynd, 1418; Ourgare, an entire rectory, 1591; "Owergar, in Patria de Pobble unkaght, aliter ffoxes country, and Iwergerry and Uryverygy," 1586 (Peyton, pp. 11, 248; Map, D. S. (A), 48). The ancient cantred of Iolegar, or Ioregar, lay round it, 1290. Sites - The western church (LI039-046001-), Uregare, was standing in 1826 (Fitzgerald, i., p. 323). It was entirely removed to build the graveyard (LI039-046002-) wall before 1840, and after 1826, when the walls of the old church stood (Fitzgerald, i., p. 323); near it is St. Margaret's Well (LI039-048----). The site of Urigedy lies at some distance to the east in a graveyard, beyond Greenpark, south of the fine old mansion of Ballygrennane Castle (LI040-007----)'. Square-headed window openings with timber window frames and render sills throughout. Square-headed door opening with timber frame remaining. Attached coursed limestone rubble wall to west with elliptical-headed carriage arch having openwork bellcote over. Tooled sandstone plaque over arch. Courtyard defined by wall and eight-bay two-storey north range. Roofless, gable ended. Smooth rendered walls. Semi-circular window openings with some exposed red brick surrounds, having some timber framed windows. Square-headed window openings to ground floor having timber frames. Square-headed door openings having timber frames. Elliptical-headed openings, having some exposed red brick surrounds. Second courtyard defined by coursed limestone rubble walls with outbuilding to north-west. Three-bay two-storey detached building. Half-hipped slate roof. Smooth rendered walls with some exposed coursed limestone rubble walls. Square-headed window openings with timber frames. Elliptical-headed opening with some exposed red brick surround. Lean-to multiple-bay single-storey building to south. Roofless. Rendered walls. Square-headed door openings to visible bays, some timber door frames remaining.
