On the E-facing slope of a low ridge in pasture. Depicted on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a tree-covered irregular enclosure formed at the junction of a number of field boundaries. It is represented on the OS 25-inch plan (surveyed 1911) as a circular tree-covered enclosure. It consists of a low hillock (40m NNE-SSW; 38m WNW-ESE) enclosed from E-S-N by a bank of earth and stone and elsewhere defined by a scarp, both of which have been extensively modified and incorporated into the field boundary. From S-W-N there is a shallow fosse at the outer foot of the bank. No entrance is recognisable. At the inner face of the bank at W are the remains of a subrectangular enclosure (LF023-014002-) In addition, a report in 1976 (SMR file) recorded a house site (LF023-014003-) at the inner face of the bank at N. In all probability this is a designed landscape feature associated with Richmount Hill house, c. 320m to SE. Another landscape feature (LF021-015----) lies 220m to SSW. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 26 August 2011 - LF023-014002: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CLF023-014002-. Within Ballybeg tree-ring (LF023-014001-). At the inner face of the bank at W are the remains of a sub-rectangular enclosure (6.3m E-W; 5.8m N-S) of uncertain date. It is defined by a bank of earth and stone (H 1m) and access is via a gap (Wth 1.6m) at E. There is a second possible enclosure (LF023-014003-) to NNE. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 26 August 2011 - LF023-014003: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CLF023-014003-. Within Ballybeg tree-ring (LF010-023001-). A report in 1976 (SMR file) recorded a house site (LF023-014003-) at the inner face of the bank at N. A possible rectangular enclosure (c. 6.1m NNE-SSW; c. 3.5m ENE-WSW) can be traced, albeit with difficultly, extending into the interior from the inner face of the bank at NNW. The other three sides are defined by fragmentary remains of grassed-over loose stone. A short length of possible walling (L 0.3m) on the ENE side is the best preserved (wall T. 0.2m). Immediately ENE of the possible enclosure is a small, low, approx. circular, largely grassed over mound of stones (2m ENE-WSW; 1.9m NNW-SSE). It is likely that these features are associated with the construction of the field boundary rather than enclosures or structures. Compiled by: Patrick F. On the N-facing slope of a low hillock in undulating pasture, with good views in all directions. An 18th-century house, named ‘Richmount Hill’, is c. 195m to the SE. Marked on the 1837 and 1914 editions of the OS 6-inch map as a large roughly subrectangular tree plantation (int. dims. c. 67m N–S ; c. 41m E–W). It is defined by an earthen bank mainly reduced to a tree-lined scarp (H 0.5m) with evidence of external stone facing visible in places. There is no evidence of an entrance. An enclosure/building (LF023-015001-) lies in the W half of the interior. (SMR file 1976) Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 13 November 2012 - LF023-015001: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CLF023-015001-. Within the W half of a designed landscape feature (LF023-015----). Marked as a roughly D-shaped enclosure on the 1914 edition of the OS 6-inch map with the straight side, running NNW-SSE, defined by the limits of the tree plantation. Described in 1975 (SMR file) as a ‘square structure’ defined by grass-covered stony banks (H1.5-2m); possibly the site of a castle or later building. It consists of an earthen bank enclosing a sunken square-shaped interior; there is no evidence of any enclosing element on the W side. The entrance is not apparent. The high steep-sided external face of the bank on the S side suggests that the enclosure may have been partially quarried or cut away in the 18th or 19th centuries. The dating of this monument is uncertain. On a knoll in gently undulating pasture. A raised oval area (c. 43m N-S; c. 38m E-W) defined by a scarp (H 1.8-2.4m) with a wide, deep, partially rock-cut, external fosse (Wth 2.8m; D 1m), which is identifiable only from SW-N-NNE. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F.
