A vertical brushwood peg (diam. 0.03m; L 0.7m) was exposed in a drain face. The end was degraded but it may have originally been a chisel-point. Ten facets around the circumference at the mid-point created a band (D 0.015m) around the peg, which had snapped in half at this point. Possibly modern. One roundwood, four small roundwoods or large pieces of brushwood, and twenty to thirty small pieces of brushwood (diam. 0.01-0.02m) were exposed in an E drain face (exposed Wth 1.5m). The larger elements and about 20 of the small pieces of brushwood were bunched in the centre. There was no visible evidence of woodworking. Nine closely set, parallel, longitudinal roundwoods were exposed in an ENE drain face (exposed Wth 2.55m); there was some evidence of woodworking. The roundwoods appeared to rest on a dense bed of brushwood but this lay below the water level of the drain and could not be investigated further. (Dunne 1999, 14, 99DR0002A) Compiled by: Mary Tunney based on data supplied by Jane Whitaker, Archaeological Development Services. Originally recorded as a togher complex (L 12.5m) orientated NNW-SSE and evident both on the field surface and in a drain face (Dunne 1999, 14, 99DR0001A). The remains consisted of a number of separate features, which may or may not have been part of one overall togher. Excavation in 2001 revealed the togher (L 60m; Wth 3.5m) to be Neolithic in date (2916 BC), orientated NE-SW, and composed of roundwood (diam. 0.08-0.15m) with a base of brushwood (diam. av. 0.03m) (Whitaker 2009, 14). The upper surface was constructed of approximately 30 relatively large roundwoods placed longitudinally. The layers were compacted together to form a stable walking surface across the bog. No pegs or transverse supports were recorded in the cuttings. Compiled by: Mary Tunney based on data supplied by Jane Whitaker, Archaeological Development Services.
