On a low ridge in pasture. Depicted as a large circular enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A report in 1976 (SMR file) indicates that this slightly raised circular area (diam. c. 42m) was enclosed by a wide low bank of earth and stone and an external fosse. On a SE-facing slope. Not marked on any ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A report in 1975 (SMR file) recorded that apart from a very slight rise, no trace of this monument survived. The W half was occupied by a modern dwelling-house. Murphy (2002, 139) undertook archaeological testing here in 1998, in advance of a proposed residential development, and concluded that 'all traces of the ringfort seem to have been destroyed.' On a gentle SW-facing slope in pasture. Depicted as an oval enclosure with the designation ‘Fort’ on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map. On the OS 25-inch plan (surveyed 1911), it is shown as a small subrectangular earthwork (overall dims. c. 30m NNE–SSW; c. 25m NW–SE). No entrance feature is indicated. The monument is overgrown with ash trees, hawthorn and briars and it has been severely defaced as a result of quarrying. It appears to be a mound and is now defined by bank of earth and gravel (Wth c. 4.5m; H 1.8m), crescent shaped in plan, curving from NNW-E-S (int. dim. N-S 9m). Both faces of the bank as well as the interior have been extensively quarried out. Slight traces of a fosse are evident from ENE-E-S. Compiled by: Patrick F. Detached five-bay single-storey thatched house, built c. 1800, with flat-roofed entrance porch offset close to centre of the front elevation (east), and with single-storey extensions to south gable and to rear (west), both with pitched artificial slate roofs. Pitched thatched roof with ropework to ridge and with two painted rendered chimneystacks. Painted wetdashed rendered walls with smooth rendered plinth. Square-headed window openings with replacement windows and painted sills. Square-headed doorway to the north face of porch having timber battened door. Set back from road, aligned at a right-angle to the road alignment. Painted rendered boundary walls to road-frontage with metal railings and wrought-iron pedestrian gate
